Ah yes, here we go again. Been in a few of these over the years. Always wondered why those who think no skimmers are better, would think we love to run them and PAY for them, unlss its because they work pretty well.
I have a large ATS, {not algae in my sump}. Search for the many threads we have had on them, although the largsest was in Borneman,s forum. {by the way, his is in his closet}. And so are my couple of friends who own one and thats where mine is now.

Wonder why?
I have asked on many of the dozen or more boards I frequent for others running turf scrubbers. NONE. I had several online discussions with Morgan before the problems they had. I would not really use their facility as an example of the average aquarists. Thats a commercial venture, with huge screw pumps and large scrubbers, {is it not ?}.
I tried many times to run my tanks with my scrubber only and most of the time had to go back to my large skimmer for assistance.
I have scrubber pics in my gallery. I can say they sure assisted in the running of my aquariums. Never had phosphates, nitrites, nitrates, ammonia or whatever else the turf algae removes but still needed the skimmer for organic removal, and also the best crap remover I have used, esp. the large becketts with their increased flow.
I tried running a 55g sump on my 170. Both had dsb and the sump was full of calerpa. Still needed skimmer assistance.
Now I,m all for running skimmerless. My new 75 is currently, for now, but my beckett sits in the closet. {and its bare bottomed, }.
Every thread we have seen like this is short of proff, as someone mentioned, except for smaller tanks that can be maintained with water changes and the odd larger one. That was very true on scrubber threads. {remember I,m talking actual scrubbers here}. This is even more evident here on the sps forum.
