"The Happening" - Snail style

Yesterday I noticed that I had a large number of snails that seemed to be on their way out. Out of about 20 snails, all but 3 had lost grip on the glass or rock they were on and fell to the sand. Only one or two of them were dead, but the rest were barely responsive. When I noticed this my skimmer was overflowing back into the sump.

What could have caused this?

A little background on my tank:

60gal with 20gal sump with a section for refugium (chaeto). I have Aqua-C EV 120 Skimmer. Currently not running carbon. 5 - 10 gal water change weekly.

Livestock:

Fish: none
SPS: various acros & a rainbow monti
LPS: Elegance, 1 favia, 2 Acan hillae, Fungia, Frogspawn & Hammer
Soft: Blue Xenia, dying rock of yumas.

Parameters checked last night:

temp 78
nitrates 5
amm 0
nitrite 0
calc 400
alk 8dKH

Do you have dinoflagellates? They are toxic to snails. Got a pic?

A pic will help tremendously.

Lee, thanks for the reply.

Here are the best pictures i could get of what could be dino's. If so what can be done about them? I have no fish in the aquarium and only feed my LPS corals one cube of mysis a week.
