The "Hitchhiker's Guide" to the Maxi-Stream mod

Ok I have a small problem with my mod. Maybe one of you can help me out. I am using the MJ900 with a double 1.25 dumas prop. It works ok when it spins the correct way but when it spins the wrong way it doesn't pull out of the magnet to hit the stop. it just stays put and spins back wards. It doesn't seem like it is binding or anything. Do you think it isn't producing enough backwash to pull free of the magnet. This MJ is over 4 years old. I have some Octura props on the way so guess I will see how those work.

Thankx
Drew..

well orderd only three dumb me should have done more of the 1.75's for my 900 and one 1200.. i have three 900's one is missing the magnet though.. anyone know of a cheap place to buy a new one.. also on the seio mods anyone try the bigger octura prop yet.. setting up a 290 and thinking of running the maxi's (4 ) 4 eductors, and a sequence 4200 closed loop.. lots of flow.. and maybe two modded seio 1500's YEA maybe should stick with the .175 dumas for the seios.. two on each 1500 or step it up a bit?

If you're thnking about modding a SEIO you might want to talk to Tim (zapata41) I think it was he who noticed that the SEIO has a tendency to spin to the right versus what we typically would expect (left handed). That siad, you might have better luck using a right-handed propeller. most propellers are left handed unless specified otherwise. So be sure to order right handed props if you do.

Better yet what hahnmeister suggested. Using a larger AquaClear pump, you would have no problems spinnign the larger octura props. Those things would put out some serious flow.

D.

black71gp, i think all the flow you are stating that you want will be WAY too much. i would run the modded maxis and the eductors, careful placement for the eductors though. i would nix the closed loop as it will draw a bunch of power and you can get more flow per watt from the maxis. maybe have the CL but only run it to blow out crud under the rocks. also are you gonna have sand, since it is always a factor in how much flow you can have and with 4 eductors you will ahve fun trying to aim them to not stir up the sand, yet alone add in the maxis flow against the eductors and you will be having a constant sand storm.

update on the seio mod. well i tried cutting the 820 apart to see if it had 2 or 4 poles but the epoxy is quite tuff, so i cutthe power cord off to save it and threw the rest out. i am gonna saythe the seio is not very practical because it doesnt spin the props at a fast enough rpm like the maxi does. also making the shroud mount is a real PITA since you have to either use an acrylic mounting base like i did or come up with some other permanent base to slide the shroud onto.

after seeing the flow from the MJ1200 i dont really have any desire to seek a larger pump to spin a prop for my tank. NOW this doesnt mean that i wont find something to test out the 1465 and smaller props on for the info from them. but for my tank 2 mj1200s and the 2 penductors is pletny for now.

Any pics of this Drew? Would be easier to tell from pics if there are any problems I think.

Unfortunately only digi cam I have is my phone and they usually come out crappy. But I will see what I can do about getting some pics.

Drew..

i guess its just hard to belive a pump can put out that much so simple.. lol.. have to do it.. i have two large 801's sitting around i broke the propeller.. might try the bigger octura prop on them. also. the closed loop is going to be on a 4 way ont he bottom.. only 130 watts a sequence 4200... tank will be BB so flow and sand no issue.. we will see how the maxi jets do.. the four of them.. and maybe some of the others for frag tank or something.. thanks for the 1455 prop number.. know where i can get a new magnet for the maxi 900??

ok just orderd my 4 octura 1440 and 6 of the 1455 just to try on the larger pumps...ouch 29 bucks plus 12 to ship... huh might call octura and order from them instead....

dont forget the 1.75 dumas props for the maxis. yeah call octura for the props, payment options are kinda limited but props are cheaper.

Tim

i have 3 1.75's orderd for the maxis.. should probaly get a few more instead of the 1440's and just some of the 1455 for the larger 801 pumps...

FYI - It looks like the biggest, meanest propeller that Octura makes in plastic is actually the 2160

Its 2.36" across, and it has a much more aggressive pitch than all other props listed thus far at 2.1.

.

Oh, and if you want a real monster, I hooked up dual 2.3" Octura props to the Aquaclear 5000 (now called the 901). That 59watt monster usually puts out 1000gph, but now...lol...its gotta be over 6000gph. I ran it sidexside with my cousin's Tunze 6200s, and the modded 901 simply blew it away.

i want to build 2 of these. is the 901 & the 110 the samething? if not where can i get the 901, cheep like me? so i dont need a longer shaft, right? (easy guys)

All i need is the 2.3" Octura prop (model 1455) a housing with a stop 2.5" or 3", some tubing and a pump. it seem to easy.

Hahn do you have any photos.

is their a defferent thread for this stream mod, or is this the right place?

I did some looking and those aquaclears seem like they are more powerful and cheaper than the maxijets. We need some prop comparos for the aquaclears.

you might want to try your local hobby store first. mine sells them for $1.20. they call them test props.

The hagen 901 and 110 appear to be the same thing (AKA the Hi-Spec 5000). If ANYONE finds a place where I can order the old Hi-Spec 2000-3000-or 4000, please let me know.

Ill try to put something together to show how I adapted the 'monster' aquaclear. Keep in mind that it is about the size of a mag-drive 7 or larger...its size matches its performance. I am cutting up some 3" PVC for the shroud. The only thing is that I really dont have any use for something this large...I did it because I had the pumps laying around (bought it on closeout from F&S back in the day when it was a model change for $20).

here is a good pick for mounting the maxi using some sieo parts and a magnet scraper, i have dont mine like this and have only one regret, should have got the larger mag scraper as they can slide around if they are angled too much.

What did you use to as the shroud that was glued to the pvc. Is that some kind of plastic window screen.

Thankx Drew..
