The "Hitchhiker's Guide" to the Maxi-Stream mod

Thank D

Not mine it's a friends Tank, one I like a lot, like it more if he would keep he's hands out for more than 20 min's lol, but I'm the same lol, (that rock would look better over an " to the left syndrome)

Mine is still sitting empty awaiting the completion of 3 of these mods to implement the under flow system I spoke of earlier, another idea/brain wave I had, which I think will work well, all powered by these mods, been 2 years in the planning & suing the last Tank maker at court (I won BTW).

I have a frag tank & syrup vat sump (another one) on the go already though, not long to go now.

But after doing the mod to 3 pumps myself now & having one of the ones made over there on CNC kit I think that the fixed shaft pumps are the way forward, I just need to get a left handed 50mm prop now to test my theories & it should be all gravy (hopefully)

I want to do a lot more testing on both the fixed & floating shaft types b4 I implement the underflow, as noise will be a big issue & the Maxie's are a bit noisy even when fully centered in comparison to th AQ's/Hagens which seem to run silent as does the Micro jet which is also Fixed shaft.

I have some details on the prop manufactures for you guys to, just the names so far, put I will look in to it & post link's for all 3 soon as I have them, 1 here in the UK & 2 in Germany, I knew it would be Germany that turned up the goods, as I spent a lot of time their as a kid & always remember seeing loads of RC boats & big power houses at that, here in the UK I have never seen one & apparently they are baned in land so there is a specialized club here - The off shore racing club, hence my struggle to find the propellers in the first place.

You live & learn (or die young & dumb)

is that the 802 in the video? guessign it is with the 3 bladed prop.. i like the housing on it..what is that like a 3" to 2" addaptor? looks great..

Nice. The 802 has some torque too I see. Now you can imagine how BAD@$$ the 901 is...lol. But seriously, that 802 looks very nice...looks like competition for the tunze 6100...maybe the 6200?

The big one kills either & the small one is still more than the 6100, If you look close you will see the stream in between the mods all running side by side.

The big mod & the small one wher placed in an apropriate/normals possition & was enought to disturb lots of detritus in his tank & a mean lot's & he has it looking pristeen all the time now & already has 3 x 6100's on at 100% in there, we turned them off to test just the mods first & the stream had come back on by the time I did the clip, bot I would say that most off the flow was from the mods & it was already cloudy b4 we turned the streas back on.

I have also figured how the flow pattern works with the guards:smokin:

To prove a point the lad who's tank it is is already thinking what corals to buy with the cash he's going to get back for his 3 streams :D

All 3 running, so as we could keep putting our hands in front of the outlets (you know how us diy'er's are "under testing" lol)

The outlets on both the mods I have made have bigger bore's so hard to make an acura comparrison, but I would say the CS pump has the most powerfull jet like forward push then the 6100, with surprisingly the 802 bing the most gental close up - but the one that moves the most volume of water (I think?)

It's all to do with the housing's & slott's/inlets & the 3 bladed props move about twice the water the twins do! CONFIRMED

& yes it's earth pipe fitting, it reduces from 100mm to 55mm HTH, that guard is made from 2 that I have spliced togeter

Have I got an aquaclear for you try out...
Aquaclear 3000, broken shaft, all but 1 fin broken on impeller.
sounds like a perfect donor.
Prob smaller than what you want to mod, at the moment it's waiting for my hobby shop to get in props they ordered for me.
It was going to be my guinea pig.
Way slow, I should have ordered directly & just paid S&H
EDIT I wish I could see that video clip, my dialup is fighting it... maybe later tonight.

All right DH I am getting ready to mod my first Maxi.
I've got:
MJ1200
Dumas 1.75" (2 plastic props at the hobby shop and they had the right one!)
1.5 Slip coupling

One question. The prop fits in the slip coupling but how are you guys attacting the 1.5" to the Maxi it seems to large?

Frunkster

nice video bro, looked like a ride at six flags. that was crazy. did you say that all 3 pumps were going at the same time in that video? was that the 44mm 1.75" 3 blade prop on the 802.

anything new in geting the 802 pump to start in the right direction?

i played with a few 802s in the petsmart and the starting dirction went the same way at first then after 6 times they seemed to get pretty ramdom. I did not come to a good conculsion, because i think they call the cops on me, so i had to go.

I am having a tough time finding a large Right handed prop. Anyone have an idea where to get them. I don't think dumas comes in a rh in plastic.

Orlenz,
What is the size of the holes in the props? Is there enough meat there to drill it out for a 3/16 carbon fiber tube?
Mike

Question and Answer.....

First what are you guys using to hold the prop on the piece of hard tubing...mine has spun off 2 times now with Super glue and Super Glue Gel.

Second Check these out for your MJ1200 mods with the 1.5 coupling. They are Ultra Light wheels for RC gliders or something I saw it in the RC shop and decided to try one....comes in packs of twos. They fit out diameter of the pipe pretty perfectly. I just drilled out the center to fit the carbon rod through and VIOLA..... looks nice and has a smooth flow characteristic.

The dumas props fit right over the 3/16 tubing no worries.

Sweet find. Got any extras?

making two for my 1200's so no extras. They do come in two packs. I couldn't find any CF rod at .098 though and I can't figure out how to glue the dang prop to stay on. I've glued it 3 times now, I'm gunna wait a couple hours for the glue this time to see if it helps.

I kinda got lost in the suffle what am I missing?

3/16 hard tubing
a SMALL piece of 1.5" PVC
short piece of regular airline tubing

slip-pcv-test cap is how you get them all together. You just need a small amout 1/2" maybe.
