The Life Reef Skimmer Club

Just joined the Life Reef club today. Replaced my Reef Octopus Diablo XS160 with a Life Reef SVS3-24 on my 75 gallon system. Thing just barely fits in my sump. Very impressed with the quality of it as well as how silent it is! I do have a question for those who have been running these for a while. Is it normal to have water fluctuations in the skimmer body? Here is a video of my skimmer running. Let me know your thoughts. Also, how does the water level look?

you want the water level up to the flange

Has anyone seen the new DC pump coming out by ecotech?

It's max output is 2,000gph at a max 21.5' of pressure (max 80 watts). In comparison, that's a better pressure rating than a mag18 and mag24, and in line with the external panworld, iwaki's, etc. I have a feeling this pump would be great on a 30" LR body, might even be a good fit on a 36" body. BRS Link

Thoughts?

Really expensive though I must say.

It is a bit expensive for something I wouldn't mess with outside of turn on for a skimmer. Thinking about it for a return but even then short of feed mode and perhaps a night mode I am not sure how much I would really take advantage of the extra features for the pump.

What would be a good pump to use with the -24 skimmer? AC or DC? I did see some Fluval pumps being used. Anything else? Wave/Speedline for DC?
Tempted to try the EcoTech M1 but not sure if its' worth it.
(I did ask this in another thread, but thought it better asked here)

I think the ecotech would be too much for the 24 body. Mag12 is good for 24" body. Dc pump around 6000lph is good too.

I just got an e-mail from Jeff and he asked me if I wanted to
upgrade to the Mag24 from the Mag 18 on my 36" skimmer.

I went with the larger pump and the larger cup.

6000lph? That's 1585gph. Pump size min. on the -24 are 600gph. What do you gain from more than doubling that min.?

AC vs DC in this skimmer? Fluval SP4 vs Jebao DC-6000?

I've been considering a Bubble King but they're out of stock so this may be an option. My other option is a Nyos but am leaning toward the Life Reef if I can nail down a good "quiet" pump.

I'm using the Mag 9.5 on my 24" from Lifereef
