What pump are you using on the skimmer, I am thinking of going with a VS3-36 or VS3-48

Do you see an advantage to mounting the injector vertically?

My concern with the bucket is when it fails the skimmer will fall or tip over.

I know better than to even think about dumping nog down She Who Must Be Obeyed's new kitchen sink. I have a dedicated stationary tub in my fish cave. The last batch of nog I dumped smelled bad enough to gag a maggot.

Haha! That's a great title.I have one too and I also have a dedicated wash tub for things like that.Comes in handy for washing little dogs butts too.

They're just threaded, and teflon tape.

Thanks ken6217!The pump is a Blueline 40HDX.It's a good thing I have all that in the basement.The Blueline pumps are quite loud.They do move a lot of water though...

Are you happy with the pump? Jeff recommended that to me as well for my skimmer and filter. I asked him if he had any energy efficient pumps and he said it's an expensive hobby so he just uses what works. I get his point but if there is a good pump, that'll last and is less watts I'd prefer it. Any thoughts?

I am happy with the pumps.I have a Blueline 70HD on a manifold that feeds the display,3 media cannisters,and the fuge.More than enough snort.The Bluelines are pressure rated I believe so if you are dealing with a lot of head loss and can deal with the sound then they are a good choice.I have a second 70HD that I might replace the 40hdx with just to see what would happen:spin2:

I didn't even think about combining. If I'm using he's 36 inch skimmer and the ls300 wed dry can I use one pump for both? Tank is 6'x3'

You could probably run 1 pump for the whole system but my thing is I like to take the whole cup off to clean it and that req the skimmer pump to be shut off so I don't have to mess with the gate valve on the skimmer exit.If you ran 1 pump you would shut down the whole system to do that same maintenance.

fishcatdog66, 70HD would be too much pump for the skimmer. The air draw would be too much for the body. I tried a Blueline 40HD on my 48" and on my 30" with a 15" extension and both skimmers couldn,t handle that pressure rated pump (had to throttle the output off the pump back halfway with a ball valve). On my 30" with the extension I am running a Blueline 30HD and pulling 20-22SCFH which is perfect for the skimmer.
