The Nautilus 140 Build

Hi all,
Starting a new build that will be a custom 140g.

The aquarium is 48x26x26 all starphire glass except the bottom. Euro braced and non reef ready (more on that to come). Diamond edging

An aquarium was delivered a few months ago and it's been sitting collecting dust until a couple of weeks ago.

I really am kinda winging it as I go. No plans or anything.

I'll be posting pictures as I make progress.

a couple of weeks ago I started the stand. It has not progressed much since then, but here are a few photos.

And under the stand my wife added her touch

Last week I ordered the glass for the external and internal overfow boxes.

This is the start of the external overflow box

Back working on the stand.
I want to wrap this using walnut. Making this up as I go with no real plans.

The walnut is currently unfinished, but I think I will wet sand with tung oil (3 coats and sanded between each coat with 200-400 grit wet/dry)followed by either past wax or a lacquer. Not sure which will bring the color I am looking for.

I don't know what colour you are looking for, but try orange shellac on a sample of the walnut. It darkens the walnut with a very nice color. I have used this on a couple things I have made and love the look.

Internal box.
I'll more than likely add a black plastic case to it so that it's not see though and add a comb weir.

nice build!
some say an non comb weir add more surface skimming. just a thought.

My current uses the non comb method. It works great and seems comparable to the combed methods (I've had both). I've lost a beautiful red starfish recently because it simply went over the edge and got stuck in the drain.

I think I go with a comb weir this time. This can be changed when ever because it will be built into the lid of the internal box.

Not much to update as of late. I have turned my attention to the house and preparing to host a Super Bowl party. We are cheering for our "home team" of course. Go Broncos!

Can't wait to get started on the stand again.

Been awhile since I've posted an update. The build has been slow
Do to a kitchen remodel.

Yesterday though, I had a couple of hours to myself and mounted the external overflow box.

Working with the silicone was not rocket science, keeping clean edges was a bit of a challenge.
Still no available inventory on the RSLL DB8i so I am now taking a look at Reef Octopus.

Internal and external overflow boxes installed and leak test passed!
Next I will trim the internal box with black 1/4 poly and set the water level.
