The official WP40 running on controller thread.

Hope I can post this here since most of you are not using the stock wp40 controller. I was unlucky enough to get a wp40 without a stock controller and dealing with jebao is proving to be quit difficult. IF anyone is not using their stock controller and would be willing to give it up I would be most grateful. Just PM me if you have one and are not planning on using it.

Thanks

You have been selling many of these in the Used Equipment forum with the stock controllers. Why are you asking for them here?

To get over on people...

Curious exactly how would i be getting over on anyone when i purchased a pump with no controller. I am simply trying to obtain one since one of my 4 that i originally purchased didn't have one. It was suggested by one of your members to ask here since a lot of you weren't using the stock controllers. Why is it some people assume the worst instead of finding out the truth.

Just for the record me selling my pumps has been ok'd by mods.

Anyways, if anyone has one I'd be willing to pay for it if you aren't using the controller. If Jebao would make good on this I wouldn't have to resort to this but since they won't respond I am forced to ask here. Please PM me if you are interested in selling yours.

My post was supposed to have a JK on the end so I apologize for the way it looked (at work ;) but anyways myself I'm keeping my controllers. I would think some in this thread ripped into them but maybe the reef angel users would be better as we don't need to take anything out of it like some are doing in some of the diy threads..

Ok... can someone tell me exactly what you can do with the Apex and controlling these pumps? I've heard it will only control intensity of the pump. Can you simulate the else mode with the Apex?

Thanks!

Brandon

No worries. I was hoping you might have another link with programming ideas and explanations. :)

I'm going to continue digging. If anyone knows of a good explanation of how to program your Apex to simulate the different modes of the Vortechs, the original WP40 controller, etc., please let me know!

Brandon

You can't do else mode exactly, but you can probably program something that is close.
cosmith71 did a very good replication of else mode for the Reef Angle, you may be able to use that as a basis for the Apex.

Google search "jebao wp40 apex controller" and you should get a thread on manhattanreefs from a former member from here that has instructions on how to hook it up and also control it.

apex & Jebao

apex & Jebao

Dear Neptune,
if you're reading this we would really dig some good modes to run these pumps. I came to apex from arduino because your software, along with many other things, is top notch. I see some going to RA because its open source. I'm missing the programming flexibility I had on the arduino right now.
Thx

I've been searching around for quite a while now to find a definite answer that the the pump indeed uses 0-5 volt analog signal for control and not a 5 volt PWM signal?

I'm planning arduino control but, has anyone hooked the controller up to a scope to verify this? I don't own one or I would.

I realize it works off a voltage divider from apex but then you can also run LED drivers off of 0-10v that are intended for PWM input.....

also for those doing arduino control what current is needed to control the pump. Arduino can output 40mA, so is that enough or is an additional circuit required to supply the current to the pump?

Thanks

Hi,
currently working on my arduino controller. I have two questions:
1) I measured the controller signal and it did not go less than 2v. In one of the first posts here one was speaking of "dont go less than 1v". So to sum it up: Can I run the pump between 1v and 5v wihtout damaging the pump? As far as I know, Tunzes may not run underneath 3v (to8v).

2) I built a pwmtoanalog converter, however somewhere I made some mistake so that high is always about 5.5v. Does anyone think this could damage the pump? Its the WP25 version

Hope anyone can help out

Thx

As far as the less than 2v, I've noticed that people on the Reef Angel forum have almost all found that their pumps stop at different percentages of power applied. I'm betting this has to do with inconsistent/cheap components in the controller.

In other words, yep, they're all a little different. :)

I'm running a WP-40 and a WP-25 on a Reef Angel.
The WP-40 I can take down to 20%, but the WP-25 will not go below 30%.

FWIW.

Saved myself this headache

Saved myself this headache

I haven't been following here the last week or so but im going to jump in randomly to brag how great these pumps work with an apex controller and the following programming:

WP10:
Fallback OFF
OSC 000:00/010:00/005:00 Then ON

WP40:
Fallback ON
OSC 005:00/030:00/015:00 Then ON
If FeedA 005 Then OFF

So far I am very happy with this set up. No rigging to run on a controller everything is running on stock equipment. Using the above programming, I get pretty randomized combinations of both the WP40+WP25, Just the WP40, Just the WP25 and neither. I further randomize it daily by running them full blast in WP1 during peak hours (almost sloshes water out of the tank) and then running them in ELSA the through the evening. Night mode also works perfect using the stock light sensors that came with mine and those kick in when the room goes dark.
