Nice LPS shot Chris ;)

Chris-

when you set the tank up, did you silicone in the acrylic overflow? I am wondering if I want the ability to remove mine for cleaning or if I want to modify it to lower the water level. All-Glass makes a large piece of their "Mega-flow" overflows removable and I have found this exceptionally helpful in the past. I pretty much have the "stock" black acrylic overflow from glasscages which they just hit it with a table saw to create the teeth. At this point (no water yet) I don't have a good feeling that the overflow will handle the flow I want......just wondering what you would do if you could do it over.

All good questions as I am at the same point in my build right now. Teeth leave a little something to be desired, but I was only going to put as much as the overflow can handle. If it did come down to it, I was going to cut off the teeth on the ends.

I haven't seen any close up as to how people ran their returns, but I though about cutting out two teeth to put som Locline through so it didn't have to drape over the top.

Thats what I plan on doing!

I am a little bit of an oddball in this situation. I have both holes drilled at 1.5" so they will both function as drains. My return will hang from the other end. I have found that running two drains (even if different dimensions) - while not the BeanAnimal's "holy" grail of drains - can still allow for plenty of customization (differing riser heights for each drain, etc) so that silence can be acheived while still maintaining some semblance of redundancy and safety. Ultimately, you don't know what sound and draining capacity you are looking at until you fill 'er up an turn 'em on. But at that point your options are pretty limited if you don't like your water height or flow rate/noise. I am fiddling with some ideas to install some glass tabs/pvc fittings that would allow the acrylic overflow to slide into place vertically and lock, but still allow for its removal. Not wanting to hijack your thread, Chris, but your tank definitely gave me lots of inspiration for my build....and I am sure your input can really help those of us working on the 2nd generation (if you will) of glasscages' rimless tanks.

One other idea: I saw someone put 5% window tint on the back of their tank instead of painting it black.....this is brilliant. I tried it yesterday, perfect. The best part is that it allows you to easily change color to blue, or no color, without some serious razor blade work. Okay. [/hijack]

SAD NEWS!!!!!!

Came home today to dying acros. :( Not really sure what is going on but they have all started to necrosis. I am testing now to see what could possibly be wrong. All LPS look fine. This REALLY sucks cause I planned to take some FTS shots tomorrow since it is my first day off in awhile and I was really happy with the way the tank was looking. Looks like I'll be up late tonight...

WOW that totally sucks Chris, did you change something other then lighting from your last set up. I know you said you cooked your rock but did you change anything else or reused anything(sand, old dead rock).

Oh man, so sorry to hear that. I know you keep your water immaculate, so stray voltage from an errant pump might be a possiblity.

Sorry about that Chris .
I bet all your testing will come out a OK , I just seen this acquire so many time to the best of reefers one of the things with Sps we just have to except it.
I lost many sps over the years with no apparent reason. but my Lps still kicking all this years with very minimum/almost no loses.

Not the kind of post I'd like to read from one of my favorite tank treads. I'm sorry to hear that your Acros aren't doing so well. :(

Hope you find out whats changed! Good luck.

Sorry to hear. I had my 240 crash a few months ago. I was never able to diagnose the problem at all. It was something my my small brain and testing equipment could never figure out.

I wish you luck, the only thing I can say is I wish I hadn't given up on some of my colonies as fast as I did and pull them out of the tank. I did have about 10% of pieces of colonies live, so some that I tossed may have had a chance.

Although my AC3 never showed a big swing in PH, it was the time of year that I started to open the windows more so it might be something to look at.

WOW, I am so sorry to hear that. :(

I hope you can find the cause of the issue.

If you are ever in Michigan I would be happy to donate frags of all my SPS to help get you back up.

Good luck and please fight on.

Noooo!!!! I love gadgets is my idol tank.

Your tank has been a big inpiration to me and deflation of my bank accounts trying to attain the same success.

BUMMER Chris, I hope you are able to sort it out and salvage your Acros. I lost ALL my Acros late last year and know how it feels to lose a tank full of prized possessions.

I hope you can figure it out. The pieces I got from you are still small but you're welcome to whatever I got from you if you need it!

Let me know

thats terrible..... I hope you can figure it out. It s not fun when the prized corals take a beating. I just lost a few as well.

Sorry to hear Chris, myself and 3 other friends with much nicer tanks than mine are experiencing the same thing. Everything tests normal, none of us can figure it out

I sent some water to aquariumwatertesting.com but I have a feeling its something that won't be picked up on their panel...

Thanks everyone for your support. as most of you expecting testing showed NOTHING. All params in check. I have no idea whats going on. I fragged what I could and hopefully they will make it. The sad part is I'm leaving for Atlanta in the morning to photograph a conference. We'll see whats let when I return. I'll keep you all updated on this.
