The Poor Man's "Elos" SPS Build. :)

OlDude - Why so. I'm pretty happy with mine. Just the right amount of light.
Chris I am disappointed in both the bulb life & the poor depth penetration I get with the TEK light. I am seriously considering replacing them with more hqi halides but will try some different bulbs first.

More actinic shots!!!

Hi Chris hows things going? Hope all's well, anyways I wanted to ask you something. I remember reading something about you cleaning your lr with a bleach/acid bath. How hard was that to do and how long did it take you it to finish and have the lr ready for you tank? I am having a hard time killing red turf algae and it doesn't seem to die and nothing will eat it. Any help would be welcomed

Have you tried a ULNS? It would still take time but should disappear eventually I would think.

No. I NEVER put bleach or acid on my rock and wouldn't recommend it. I let the rock dry out for awhile and then cured it. Took a few weeks to get it done. You could possibly try a naso. They eat everything. They were the only fish I found would eat the wafer algae. Hard to find healthy small ones and it would only be temporary. They will eat it as it grows. A permanent solution would be to kill it altogether.

I'm pretty sure he is running an ULNS now. So algae still do fine in these systems. I don't know why, but they do. It's best to not have them than to try and rid the tank of them later.

Mario, I have the same problem. I'm going to try getting some urchins to take care of it. I'll let you know if it works. But I'm going to continue dosing vodka in the process.

Yeah I am already running a ulna. But for some reason it does better with ulns. I have tried basis but he would not touch it at all. I also tried urchis and all the did was eat around it. So I guess the next step would be a total of cleaning.

urchins aren't the solution to wafer algae if that is what you are talking about. [atleast tuxedo urchins arent] I tried it =(

could we see a FTS. everything looks amazing

I've been after him for a month or so... you won't see it until it's picture perfect. And then it will be just that, a perfect picture. :D

Love the PB's. I have one now thanks to you and WWC. The glow is amazing before and after the halides.

I think a FTS shot is in order. :)

OT
Have you been to BRK's newer location? How is it? EA has changed quite a bit and not what it used to be. SPS section that is. Economy is really crunching them I guess......

FatCat - Thanks!

Dave - Appreciate the compliment! I'll have a FTA soon. Hope it turns out "perfect".

Moooo - i think he was referring to the red/pink algae. I guess it doesn't matter though since they don't eat either.

Fishy - Thanks bro! FTS coming soon. :)

Ian - I still have SPS. I only kept my favorite pieces.

KC3 - The PB are AMAZING. I like looking at the tank with them more so than actinics or daylight. I've been to BRKs new location and it is much bigger than the last. Very nice IMO. As far as EA goes last time I was there it was a BIG disappointment. Virtually no SPS. :( He did cut me some stuff from the display tank up front so I was a HAPPY camper when I left. ;)

NIck - Yup. finally got some of them mounted. I still need to aquascape the other side and get the rest of the corals on the rocks. Seems like the chalices that are on the rocks are happier there than when they were on the starboard.
