The Rebirth/Rebuild of my 180g sps thread

you know what ! all of you talk about copper and things like that in your tank look at your pluming with in your homes ! hell the citys where we get most of are water uses brass and even copper ! so come on if u dont want so much of that stuf in your water in your tanks get a ro/di it will remove 90% of it

I would think he is using ro water, just a hose to get it from one container to another. Give him a break, it was a duh moment as he said. Nothing you cant strip out with a polyfilter.

Nice additions by the way man. Hey whats your name? if youve posted it I appologize.

what was the material u glue the rocks

does it polymarize under water
it looks like cement ....

It is a material that I purchased from a company called Marco Rocks. It does start to harden and it cures within 24hrs.
I personally did not use it underwater and could not tell you if it works that way. But something tells me it doesn't.

BTW I do use a RO/DI 4 stage system that produces 100 gallons. The pipes in my house are pvc. I believe it is the stronger pvc piping. If I can not mix saltwater I buy the saltwater mix from my lfs called WWC in Orlando.

Oh wow did not realize I had forgot to mention that I use RO water, but lol I can see how it would cause confusion.

Thanks Chris and my name is Juan.

How are the fish doing with the nitrite levels being a bit high? You are still in your cycle, I hope you dont run into issues with an extended cycle since your tank will be constantly battling itself...just concerned. Im sure the tanks volume will help there though. Good luck, you have some nice fishies!

Chris the fish in the display tank seem to be fine. They are eating the brown algae, eating what I give them.

Not sure Chris what you mean by battling itself and tank volume. Can you elaborate?

Juan

looking good so far. I'm impressed. Now I'm wondering where I can get some of that starboard.

Thanks Picano! The Star board can be bought in sheets from any marine/boat supply place.
LFS store wise you can get it thru WWC in Orlando, Fl.

just saying that a tank in its cycle has a certain capacity for processing waste which needs time to build itself up. Adding more waste to the tank makes those bacteria have to try even harder to catch up and when it cant you end up with more and more waste that needs processed. Make any more sense? over time, they will catch up though so im just hoping that the ammonia spikes dont take out any fish in the process.

By volume, I mean you have more water to dilute waste so those spikes wont be as large as long as you keep the fish load low. In the end you are creating mini cycles all the tme now that you have fish and fish food being added and your bacteria load isnt up to snuff yet. A prolonged cycle is what youre creating. Just keep up with water changes, food adding low and get as much cured rock in there as you can. Also bacteria in a bottle works too.

any update? what return pump did u ended using? what about sump pics.lols

D'kingfisher I opted to wait for the pump. The current pump Gen-X is still running and it is allowing more time to think and research which pump I will get.

Here are some pics of my sump:

Latest update guys

Week five met up with a little fustration as the tank kept measuring Nitrites.
I kept adding microbacter as directed.
Finally week six I saw relief!
At this point I needed to desperately get my fish into the main display. Christmas is coming and I did not want the extra fish tank in the main living area.

One of my LFS stores was having a Christmas party/ HUGE sale on fish, corals and invertebrates.
Of course my wallet was ready.

I added a powder blue tang

Well total fish for now are as follows:

1 purple tang
1 hippo tang
1 possum wrasse
1 swiss guard basslet
6 green chromis
3 springer damsels
1 powder blue tang
1 foxface
1 juv emperor anglefish
1 mimic tang

Well for now this is gonna do me for a bit I want the system to start ageing and start to get my water parameters really in order for the addition of corals.

I did add a coral banded shrimp and a cleaner shrimp but they are in hiding still and I can't get good shots. As soon as I do I will post.

Merry Christmas all!!!

Keep us posted on your PBT, I was never able to add one untill my system was fairly mature.. if this works out with all of your tangs, it will be quite nice because they were all added around the same time... Agression should be at a minimum.. No worries about the Emperor and polyp picking?

I will keep you posted of the PBT so far there has not been ANY aggression. The fact is that I added them all at same time for the very reason aggression with any new tangs. But time will tell.
The emperor has always been a fav of mine except by the time I wanted one I had too many prized Zoe's. Now I have none!
