The Reef Central Corner Club Thread

Thanks for the heads up on the magnets every one. Reefscape15, thanks for the kind words. I looking forward to your new tank build, it sounds great. As for me the 54 is getting overcrowded quick, but i still dont have any room in the house to upgrade. For now it is what it is...

Hey guys, been a while since I've updated on here. Here are some fts, I uploaded tons of pics to my build thread, though. Please feel free to check them out and leave some comments/suggestions!

okay so i have been reading alot and i am thinking on buying to 92 gallon corner tank, now i have a few questions?

would i be okay to run a 400watt MH and 4 24 in T5/vho with fans in the canopy? would i need a chiller?
what return pump are u bigger 92 gallon guys using? i was tossing around the idea of closed loop but not sure yet.
whats a good skimmer for this tank? i have heard of a few but better to hear from the people who have corner tanks.

i plan i buying it when i move to cali in june. it is a whole pakage deal, with everything but he is running PC, with a 20 gallon sump, and a no name skimmer.

appriciate all teh answeers and help.

400watt would be fine, but it's hard to say if you'll need a chiller or not. It's something that you'd have to watch in the summer months, and if you need one, you need one. I would probably use a Mag9 or equivelant for the return pump. I'll be using a Mag7 on my 54gal when I redo that. A Reef Octo Extreme/SWC 200 would be a good fit for your system. Some people like ASM, but personally for the money you have to pay, I feel that there are some skimmers that pack a much better punch. The Gen II Vertex-IN series skimmers are also great. I'd go with a 180 for your tank.

I am in the process of getting my tank cleaned out and going to be moving as well, and I wanted to do a closed loop on my tank. I want to run a 400watt 20k XM with 6 24watt T-5's and a bunch of LED's. I'll have a vented canopy with fans, and a sump in a different stand with fans on that too, but I decided to go against the closed loop just due to the heat that the extra pump would put out. I'm going to save and get 2 Vortech MP10's instead! It's more money, but hopefully with the fans running on the sump and display, I'd be able to stay away from a chiller. Another thing that swayed me away from a closed loop was that I'm going to set up a mostly SPS system this time around, and using the MP10's will allow me to move them around and find the perfect flow, and when the frags get large, I'll be able to adjust the position as well. Plus the fact that they're controllable really sold me on the idea.

Not to say that you can't do a closed loop, but these are the reasons why I opted not to. On a 92g, you could probably run a pair of MP10's, but a pair of MP20's or MP40's would definitely be a better fit. Hope you have a good build, and keep us all posted with questions and updates.

Wow! Thats some good growth! What are you doing for dosing? I want to do just Brightwell Aquatics 2part, but may do Kalk ATO as well.

Wow Tangers that's some great growth you have there!

Jbird I'm so sorry to hear about your string of bad luck, your tank is stunning.

Reefscape I've enjoyed your tank as well so will look forward to seeing a rebuild. Best of luck on that.

Doc, I have a 92g and all I run is a 400w MH. I don't have any supplemental lighting though. I don't need a chiller, I do run a ran over the tank in summer months, but texas half the year is summer months. I'm working on a canopy design though so that's a big question for me is if I will need a chiller by enclosing it or if a couple fans blowing in and out would cut it. Also I use a mag9 and it works great for my return.

Chrissu, I haven't heard of a solar tube over a corner but very intriguing idea. Also let me know how you like the new xp-2000 I was considering one of those myself. Can't decide if I want to update my ATI BM skimmer which has seen it's better days or upgrade flow since I am wanting to move towards an SPS dominate tank.

Simon great video, the LED's look great.

I dose Brightwell also,(but to tell you the truth I have been pretty lax on it and need to get in a better routine!) Most just comes from water changes and a little purple up now and then. Not the way I want it to be, just need to get all my dosing dialed in, and if you skip a few days while dialing in, you might as well start all over!

Its been a year so thought I would show an update. Got the controller going for the lights and heater, and plumbed a RSB. Haven't done much with getting fish, lost the chromises to the overflow. Thanks to everyone for the wealth of info i've stolen from others. Thomas
