The Reef Central Corner Club Thread

Jesse,
yeah I've heard that before that most are iffy to definite nippers. I was hoping for either a flame or coral beauty. Heard flames are touchy but hear coral beautys are generally good. So we will see. I appreciate the advice.
Let me ask a quick question though. I posted in reef discussion but maybe you guys have a thought. My skimmer, ATI BM 160, I replaced the skimmer pump in march when the original pump went out on me. Was a sicce psk2500, so replaced it with the same. Been working great til yesterday. Now my skimmer is going crazy, overflowing in a couple seconds. I had the output about half closed and worked great til now. I opened it wide open and it had no effect. I then raised the skimmer about 3 inches, no effect. If I raise it any higher then the skimmer output starts spitting out microbubbles. Not sure what to do. Any thoughts?

Yeah that's what someone suggested. I checked the tubing and it didn't see clogged, didn't think about checking the intake on the pump. I will have to look at that...
While I was checking the tubing though I noticed if I restricted the air intake by pinching it my bubble level in the neck went down and didn't overflow so bad. Possible fix, yes but reduces the effectiveness of the skimmer without explaining why it's worked with an open air intake for well over a year now. Anyway I will check the pump intakes and get back to you Jesse.
Thanks

Jesse,
So tore down the skimmer looking for a clog or something to explain what went wrong with it. Tore it all apart and saw nothing out of the ordinary in the pump or the air intake. No clogs or whatever. So frustrated I put it all back together and threw it back in the sump. Turned it on and now it's working perfectly again as if nothing was ever wrong. Don't know, maybe just one of those things I guess, oh well.

Voted for our thread for thread of the month, that's awesome. Keep up the great reefs guys.

got my vote it. Just re-read the entire first chunk of "our" thread. Pretty good info and such a great group of guys/gals that are so willing to answer everyones questions and provide wonderful tips and insight. Hope we win and maybe get our sticky!!!! My new build will be starting pretty soon. Moving within the month and the new setup is FIRST on my list of home improvements.

Hey Steff,
Welcome to the corner! Your tank looks good, I like the cap attached to the wall, I might have to do that when I get things really going in my tank.

That reminds me of Boret's rock work! If you read back through the last 15 pages or so, hes got some pretty amazing shots of his setup. Unfortuinately, he had to take it down.

Hey all,
Wanted to get some advice that only the corner guys and gals will understand. Since we have such limited space under our stands. I've got the 92g corner. Right now my sump is just a rubbermaid container for my skimmer, and carbon, gfo reactors. I've been trying to figure out a way to incorporate a fuge but with such limited space it's so hard. I don't have money to buy a premade sump so I was wondering if this set up would work.

My thinking is get a 20g tall tank and a 10g tank to fit side by side. I would split my drain line, 1 going to the 10g where the skimmer would be and the other line going to the fuge. Put a gate valve on 1 or both to control the amount of flow into each. Build a baffle in each tank for the return. Maybe just have the skimmer return section feed into the fuge return section and then both of those have 1 main pump to return to the tank.

I'm sure there are about a million holes in my thinking here so please help point them out to me and if this sort of thinking is possible? I'm wanting a fuge for nutrient exports mainly and also for pod production to feed the tank. I got the idea for this when I was looking on melev's site and saw the sump that has the return section in the middle, with the skimmer on 1 side, and the fuge on the other. I think my idea is pretty much the same thing, just with an extra pump that would combine return sections. And without having to spend so much money too.
Thanks guys!

I agree with jesse's setup. Keeps your water entering the fuge as clean as possible, and doesn't take away anything from the fuge from getting to your display. This will be my new setup also

How did i miss this gem of a thread? I'm in the process of setting up a 92gl bow front oceanic corner with a 150gl and 75gl sump in the basement.. The 150 is for water volume. bio filter and to keep things cool in my DT and the 75 is for equipment and return.. I want to go LED lights for my DT.. Has anyone here gone LED and what ones used? I will read back in this thread but it's going to be a good long read
