The Reef Central Corner Club Thread

Hey Jim, I think I mentioned back somewhere about starting this. I'm calling it a colidacap. There's 5 different monties on the rock. We'll see how it grows!!!

I just wanted to show some pics of my tank in progress. I want to thank my good friend Jeff Sebern (Aquatic Interiors Unlimited). Its a 92 gal tank. More details to follow.

Jesse - I remember a TOTM just when I first registered who did green and orange caps together. He glued a bunch of tiny chunks of both on a frag disc and it turned out kind of like a tie-die cap. I think your's will end up very cool! I love how the clusters of SPS grow together.

Henery - Looking very good! I love the stand! What are your tank specs? Lighting/flow/skimmer/other filtration? Just curious. Is the last pic your current status with the tank?

looking fantastic simon, sorry if you mentioned it and i missed it, what type of camera are you taking the pictures with?

Thanks Reef. I am using a Canon Rebel XSi with Canon EF100mm 2.8f USM macro lens. I am just a beginner and still learning how to take macro shots. I did use an underwater photo box to take these pictures from the top. The curvature of the front glass distorted the image so much it is impossible to take good closeup shots thru the front glass. Here is my DIY underwater camera box that I used.

Bzuber, I think that coral is a moon coral. I bought it from a LFS when it was about 1/4 its current size. It is one of my favorite corals. Very hardy too.

Wow, Henry, this is a nice good looking stand and canopy. Very professionally done!

I like the wide opening underneath the tank but I was a little concerned there may not be enough support at the front. With rocks and water in the tank, we are talking over 1000 lbs of weight.

I don't know if you can see it but there is a laminated beam running across the front to add support.

Quick Details: 92gal.....custom made 3 compartment sump 20-25gal......octopus cone skimmer....100#s dry marco rocks......400watt 14k in lumenarc fixture.....PM calcium reactor....zeovit reactor......carbon filter, phos filter, quiet one 400 return pump.....vortec powerhead w/battery backup...ATO with Double fault protection.......water sensor to shutoff ro if water overflows.....50gal per day ro/di..... I know there is more, just can't remember right now.

Thanks for the compliments and feedback

Ohh, I forgot........Silent Air System for ventilation with 4" duct thru wall to outside

Also the tank was set 3/4" off the floor to allow for air to be pulled into the stand. also there is a small gap around the doors to facilitate airflow. Air is then pushed out of the canopy thru the duct out to the attic then out a roof vent. pretty cool system.

Reefscape15,
Its not a full tank shot nor is it a very good picture but here is a portion of my tank from above....

Sdoggssf, you've amazing sps growth in you tank. I noticed you have 4 nozzles coming off your return pump. What is your pump rated in terms of gph? Are there any power heads or wave makers you are using besides those 4 nozzles? I found it difficult to have good water flow through out a corner tank. I am thinking getting one or two of those MP40 ES but I am not sure how effective they are in a corner tank.

SimonSKL,
My main pump that is connected to the 4 nozzles is a MAG12, which im in the process of changing due to the unreliability of the pump. I also have 2 6105 tunze pumps on a 7095 wave maker. Circulation is good, but getting more challenging as the corals grow. Corner tank circulation is definitley a challenge.

Do any of you have a 36" MH Fixture with "visors"? Do they really protect the eyes of onlookers? Is there a particular brand of MH Fixture you would recommend to stay away from or to go with?

Considering one of the following:
Aqua Medic Ocean Light 36" 2 x 150W plus 2 x 39W T5
Sunlight Supply 36" Maristar HQI & 39-Watt T5 Light Fixture
Hamilton Belize 36"

Simon, awesome pictures!

Misled, pics look great. The colidacap is great, can't wait to see what it will look like.

Henry, your tank is looking great so far. The woodwork looks very well done.

Sdog your tank looks incredible. I was wondering, could you post a couple pics of your return plumbing. How you have it all run and split to those outputs. If so thanks!

Mdavis your tank looks great too, would like to see more pics there. I've got such a long way to go.

Chris, I have no idea about the visor question. I just have a MH hanging over the tank and if I'm laying on the couch I'm blinding by light!

No new pics of my tank, nothing has changed. I think I've gotten a lot of the phosphates down in my tank which is good. My API test kit always shows 0, but am saving up for a hanna checker to verify they are low before I waste any money on SPS frags I would kill. Have lots of coraline growing all over the tank since I rebuilt it and my gramma and chromis are doing well. Hope to add an angel or poor man moorish idol sometime over the summer. It's easy to learn patience in this hobby with no money.
