The sound of a breaking aquarium

Wow

Wow

LOL
I believe there are enough great reefers from Camarillo to San Bernardino to actually pull it off!

I am currently putting together makeshift holding containers for all the corals, fish, rock and sand.
Many thanks to Ray for helping me out today and all who have generously offered assistance. What a great community of people!!

Ouch! I'm real sorry to hear that Bill. Dunno if you remember but you gave me my start up colony of Chaeto a year or so ago. Anyways, I don't really have much equipment to help but I can offer some manpower or even temp housing for your corals if you want since I'm in Agoura.

We got Bill set up with a bunch of tubs and extra tank I had sitting around. Threw in a few powerheads and a skimmer. he's got a line on a tank to be picked up on Wed. Lets all keep our fingers crossed and hope eveything pulls thru as he has some sweet stuff.

I'd have put it in my 400 but I was afraid it wouldn't live, nitrates are way too high. Yea I need a water change and BIG fish poop a lot.

Damn I just saw this...

Bill, I just got a 180g glass RR tank from visio. It has starphire on 3 viewing sides, drilled for closed loop.. pretty sweet tank.. its brand new and sitting in my garage here in NP.

Under usual circumstances, I wouldn't do this, but since you need a new tank, let me know. My project is still a week or two away and I can get my buddy to get visio to build me another one in that timeframe.

PM me if you want to look at it...I'll sell it to you for what it cost me, around a $940...

If you dont like it, let me know, I can help with space in my tank for corals, as well as powerheads, pumps, etc etc.

Let me know.. PM me I am right up the grade in NP... I know if something like this happend to me I'd hope others in the area would help, so I feel its my obligation to return the favor.

Hey Bill, are you still picking up the tank on Sunday? Ray mentioned that you were getting your tank on Wednesday.

I spent the day taking down the tank and it's ready for pick up whenever you are ready.

Wow sorry to hear what happened to your tank, it is the first time I hear that happen to an acrylic tank...

Glad to hear there are lots of help in the area, way to go reefers!

Offering your BRAND NEW TANKS to somebody you barely (if at all) know. That kinda support is insane!

Wow... Just wow.

I dont know about any of you (well, maybe except Bill) but im pretty floored by the response and support this community demonstrated. THREE PAGES of nearly instant support! I mean, I know there are quite a few really cool people out there but this is just amazing. This is magnified by how "L.A. people" are (read: not so kind) in general. In a way, it reminds me of this thread. I definately feel much more at ease in the face of disaster knowing that we all got each others back.

Hats off to all of you. You rock.

Spline9...I don't know Bill...but i figured my brand new 180 would work for him..sounds like he already bought a different tank though...I wont have time to set mine up for 2 weeks, so I offered him to buy it if he wanted..

I know what kind of support I would want if something like this happend to me, so as the old saying goes, do one to others as others would have done to you..

When talking about how LA people are, I think people talk about the fake Hollywood crowd (sorry if you are one of them).. you know, the ones that get dressed up and think they are a cut above the rest...or pretend to be important.... I don't think too many of us here are like that. We have a passion about this hobby and don't like to see other's fail..well at least I dont.

Anyways, sounds like Bill is taken care of, so on I go to complete my 180 gal project before the new baby arrives.

WOW! That really sucks. Must have been a combo of thin acrylic, tank age, drilling near top seams that lead to seperation. If it were thicker acrylic I doubt it would have happened despite the other factors.

Best wishes Bill. Unfortunately that's all I can offer this late in the game, unless someone can transport a few large powerheads up to you. I have atleast one Sedra pump that could help with circulation. If by some chance you need it let me know! But it sounds like all bases are covered. My hat is off to all you who could and did extend yourselves to help. This is an awesome connection of people!

Bill,

Wish I would have known earlier that you didn't want the tank any longer, otherwise I wouldn't have used up vacation hours taking it down yesterday.

Oh well, had to come down sooner or later. Anyway, someone out there need a 150 gallon tank, canopy and stand?

The resurrection

The resurrection

I thought I might turn this thread into something more positive so...lets begin the rebuild stage.

My soon to be wife wanted to change out the tile that the old tank sat on (she didn't like the color). By the way, she picked out the original color. Women...

Heres a shot of the old tile with my demolition tool kit.

After using the demolition tool kit (Warning: Slamming a hammer on to tile produces high-speed shards of tile that imbed into the shins of the unexpected DIY'er wearing shorts)

Meanwhile in the garage... my (ultra ghetto) temp holding solution

To be continued (I have to go finish staining my new 36" stand).
