Amazing tank buddy. Love the room too. That woodwork is great. I need to check out the pics of your tank room since mine will be the same size almost

Amazing tank buddy...and love the animals. They make life interesting. My wife loves Am. Fox hounds and beagles :D

Mako, how much influence do you think uv has on your tank??? you and a few others such as TFP have incredible tanks and run UV. What are your thought????

You have no idea LOL!!!

zoo list: American Foxhound, Blue Beagle, 4 cats, 2 cockateils, poison Dart frog, and a large fish tank :D

Can we see some shots of the large tank?? ;)

Mako,

Related to the UV question above, I noticed on the Poly Labs Reef-resh FAQs that they don't recommend running UV because it "will kill a significant part of the bacterial population required for System RF to work effectively". Have you had any difficulties tuning your Reef-resh regiment due to the UV?

Thanks,

I think it helps with water clarity and keeping my fish away from some of the diseases. I've never ran a tank without UV so I don't know what I'm missing or gaining lol

Well maybe thats why I didn't notice the color increase when running it? I did notice it helped with algae growth and I noticed sponge and tunicate growth increased or at least I noticed them while I was running it.

Mako,

I've been in this hobby for 61 years, SW for the last 40. I have seen some pretty awesome aquariums. Many have impressed me but your reef tank is easily one of the best. There is nothing I could add to what has already been said over and over again that would make any difference to you. All the superlatives bestowed on you by others I can simply add, "Ditto"!!!

That saves me a lot of typing. Congratulations, Mako, on a superb example of what a man can do with Mother Natures' finest critters.

I am humbled.

OMG - I could swear the cats were both thinking, "There he goes taking pictures of that stupid tank again when everybody knows we're the cats meow. Let's all act contrary. Quick turn away from the camera and I'll turn my ears back to show him just how slighted we feel."

Beautiful tank makoJ. It's TOTM material for sure.

Here is my vlamingi. Glad to see others have them.

I love this fish. He still will feed out of my hand and loves to play follow the leader on the tank.

Love our vlamingi too he the puppy dog of our reef follows me where ever I go and is always in my business if I'm in the tank lol

Exactly with "In my business", he occasionally bites at me when my hand is in the tank. it does not hurt, he is more playing with me. It is funny.
Anytime I take a picture he is there to be in it.

LOL yea mine bites me too it doesn't hurt either. I'm sure he thinks I have food hiding in my hand.

Same here when I take pictures I have to use the remote control to shoot pictures. I will get the camera where I want it and all setup and then I will have to walk to the other side of the tank and then he comes swimming up and I press the shoot button. LOL if I didn't do that all the pictures would be of him :p

Mako-

Great tank. I am so happy to have run across your thread as I'm currently planning to upgrade to a 300 (96lx30wx24 tall - like yours) and your setup has given me tons of ideas. A few questions I'd really appreciate your help on. I made it to page 14 of the thread and will continue tomorrow. If some of these were answered in the last couple of months, I apologize, but since I'm about to order my tank I couldn't wait. My questions:

1. How much did the tank cost? How about the stand?
2. As I recall, you have one side Starphire and one side normal. With the tank filled, can you notice a big difference? Would you go with starphire again?
3. Are you happy with the closed loop the way you designed it and powered by the Barracuda or would you have more or less outputs?
4. Are you still happy with the Deltec Calcium reactor and the d. Deltec AP902 skimmer? Which model is the calcium reactor, btw.
5. I was not planning on getting a computer. Is the Acuacontroller a must have in your opinion?
6. Is there anything different you would do in your setup if you could start over?

Thanks in advance. You have already steered me in the right direction on so many things.

Cheers,

Los

Love the way it all looks. I'm doing a 180 in wall can you tell me of you set your tank into the wall behide the 2x4 or is it flush with the wall? Our better yet can you show me a close up of the front of tank? I have a 8 way ocean motion with a Seq. Dart 3600. Can you show me some pictures of how you plummed yours up? Thank's again the tank looks out standing. I am trying to get it all plummed up for super bowl weekend so i can fill it with water.

Thanks I will try to answer all your questions.
1) I know the stand cost me around $800 I will have to look up what the tank cost tomorrow and will post it then.

2)Would get starfire again if I had to do it over again much cleaner and clearer look.

3)Extremely satisfied with everything the hammerhead has some serious flow with 4 outlets don't think I would change a thing.

4)Love my Deltec's wouldn't change them either. My old deltec reactor was a pf601s I recently got the bigger model just so I wouldn't have to clean the reactor as much as I have this year.

5)Its not a MUST have but for me it is lol I love geek toys and it helps me control everything from one location.

6)Bigger fish room if I could have had one LOL other than that I don't think so

Thanks, my tank is behind the wall and recessed about 4"with a shelf put in. There is about a 1/4" gap between the glass and the wood on the bottom I put some foam in so it looks like the tank is flush with the wood.
you can kinda see it in this picture:

I have these pictures of the 4-way:

Your tank, room, and corals are amazing. I agree, one of the nicest tanks on the boards. From the aquascaping and coral to the room itself. Well done :)
