Very nice Chris. Agreed - this mod is a most excellent DIY.

FYI...for anyone looking at the 3rpm motor at surpluscenter.com... The speed is identical to my 2.5rpm. Also, both of my motors were in used condition when they arrived. The website said they would be new. Se La Vi, they work great and they were only $4 each. The motors also have a 90 day guarantee. If I need another I will be going to them again.

Ok I have my motors and it looks like it moves slow enough @ 3.5RPM to be used for this mod. The problem is now that my local Home Stupid... I mean Depot doesn't have anything in the way of resembling a plastic cover box that I can use without having to do extensive surgery for it on the inside in order to fit the motor. Any ideas where I can get this?

D.

Maybe Radio Shack if you haven't found something yet...

Any electric supply house will have the grey electrical boxes and watertight covers.

edit: Sorry I should have read on....

I tried 3 Home Depots and none of them had a 4x4x2 box without a bunch of crap and attachment junk inside.

Lowes had it here in Denver but they have store specific inventories. If you go to their website you can actually find out which Lowes in your area has them in stock. I just searched for electrical boxes. It came up on the 4th page for my local store. Carlon 4"x4"x2" Molded Junction Box. Item number 10008, Model number E989NNJCAR. I don't know if these numbers are universal within their organization though.

looks great Chris, I have had mine up and running for about a week now and am very happy with it.... I'm gonna make a 2nd one this weekend....

Anybody interested in building a couple of these and selling them to me? I just don't have the time to read 15 pages and figure it out :(

If you read page 6 you should get everything you need. Thanks again hmott. I copied your design almost exactly and they have been running great for a few months now.

Just spend the last hour or so reading the whole thread and figuring this out, gonna order parts to try building two of them :)

Hmmmm.... maybe a couple of these, a couple big Seios, and a Seio controller for a lot of random movement...

Haven't read the whole thread but it seems like the motor is the hard part to find.

these might be worth a try.

www.mcmaster.com

page 944 Part number 3867K3
1.5 rpm 4.31 in-lbs $20.31

they have a full range 1 rpm to 20 rpm, different torques.

Thanks dhnguyen for fixing the link.

Grochmal - I have the 2.5 rpm in dhnguyen's link and it is totally silent.

I also have a 3.5 rpm motor (also from surplus center) and it is a touch noisy but nothing relative to the other noises in the tank. This 3.5 motor uses a different housing - it has an octagon shaped housing. Both of these motors, while they are reported to run at different rpms, match in speed though.

I have the 2.5 rpm motor and it is relativly quiet. Unfortunatly the place where the connection point for the pipe when it turns is very noisy. I would be open to suggestions for decreasing noice caused by friction while rotating the pump.
