Shouldn't matter which way it turns, it'll work both ways.
I got my new motors in (see above) and baby are those quiet.
I can't wait to get them hooked up.
They're a little tougher to connect to since the shaft is so short and funny shaped but the difference in noise is amazing.

Buy a power cord (or use an old one laying around) and cut the female end off.
Buy some wire connectors from Radio Shack or other such store and crimp them on the end of the cord.

Soldering makes a much safer and more secure conection, then shrink tube it to help keep moisture out and insulate the connection.:D

You make a four-bar device. Same way your windshiled wipers work on a single directional motor. But if I recall correclty I believe some people are using a larger wheel that pulls a line. Concept similar to steam driven locamotives.

Chad, How did that motor work out. I bought one from ebay but the gearing stripped out within 2 minutes of operation under no load.

I have all the boxes built, Now I need to find motors again.

i bought 3 motors, and i really like them. the biggest problem so far was making something to fit the thing that spins. i have had it running for 1 full day now and its fine, i havnt finished it yet so i havnt run it longer than just a day.

just some pictures of one im making, cost me 5$ for a 24"x24" peice of acrylic, alot cheaper than the electical boxes! plus this looks better and has more flexibility in shapes. i should be finished with it tomorrow, i also spilled a can of PVC glue all over my new carpet :(... OOPSSS!!!
 
oh man, after looking at my own picture, i figured a much better idea. ill have a picture later on my second swirl-stein. actually, there are a few improvements ill have.
 
Here's mine... made a 3"x5" acrylic box...

Made a corner mount for it from 3/8" acrylic. Drilled holes in the box to hold the shaft and box in multiple positions, or two boxes in tandem.

Then I made the shaft that goes to the powerhead out of 3/8" OD acrylic pipe, and 3/8" ID acrylic pipe stuck together and drilled.

The powerhead is a MJ1200 with an octura 2035... tons of flow.

If I want to change the range of oscillation on the device, I simply move the pin on the motor's wheel inward or outward... right now its set at about 100 degrees, but can go over 120.

thats really nice looking. would you be willing to pm me the distance from center you drilled your holes? im having trouble figureing out how to get more than a 40 degree angle lol, i just keep making it jam.
 
You mean on the disks? The distances are relative to each other, and the distance on the motor's disk from the center determines the degree of oscillation. I would suggest you start with a 2:1 ratio (oscillation disk to motor disk ratio) to give you about a 90 degree arc and go from there.
 
Yeah, that shroud looks a little long, but its also running an octura 2035 (thats a smaller prop at 1.38", but its also got a steeper pitch than a dumas 3004, so more water through a smaller pipe). Im replacing it this weekend though, as the slots need to end a bit further away from the end... Im actually getting water coming out of the closest-to-the-prop intake slots! Actually, its not that long... 3".
