bug, let us know how it goes and be sure and take pictures. I think DC is the way to go, I just didn't have the gonads to give it a shoot. I feel like if I can just copy one then I'll feel better about trying to modify the design. I already know I would like to add a timer into the housing for mine. I've started looking into it just need to weigh the price vs. the price of just setting up a wave timer for them all and running them to it.

I'm really surprised we only have a few people posting on here working on this, it seems like an awesome project if you ask me.

You know, instead of the dual rotating circles (piston like a steam engine), there are alternative ways to make this thing work. A swingarm and wheel would work...

I have been making one that will not only move the powerhead back and forth, but up and down as well in a circle by mounting the timing motor vertically and using a swingarm that is balanced on a ball-pivot like a teeter-toter.

Ill make diagrams and post later...but there are many ways to do this than just whats been shown so far...many ways that take up less space as well.

haven't made it yet. Maxijets should be here tomarrow, and the rest of the parts later. Gotta do that mod first, then I'll check some motors. If you look at wiper motors for Benz headlights, they are small and should have enough torque to twist them around. With a 90 deg rotation.

Most people are intimidated by anything electrical and is probably why this is not as popular a DIY project.

But I guess it's up to us to refine the project and make it easy for the rest? :D

hmmm, I haven't at all been worried I'd get shocked. Its a spade plug and I certainly won't be messing near the connection once its plugged in. I will admit I did some "testing the motor" when it arrived with wires directly in the outlet, but that certainly wasn't smart or required.

I've actually temporarily put my maxi-stream mod on hold for this. Although I have the parts all but to mj's that should be in route.

I'm hoping I can run the wireing for the mj up the tube and into the housing and connect it directly with the motor. So it would only take one power cord to make it all work. I may try and get an on/off switch on it also, but I figured I'd wait until I have one mounted first so I can decide the best location.

Any idea on the cost of a benz wiper motor? I'm pretty sure most newer benz spray some gas now instead of wipe.. I'll go check on the 2005 clk 500... yeah its sprays not wipes.
 
indeed, I cut my powercord for the mj, fed it through the pvc, and it looks really clean. heatshrink/solder the wire back together and I think I'm gold.

This probably goes w/out saying, cut the cord close to the plug, not a part that will be submerged. lol
 
yeah.. clearly I'll cut it up inside the housing :) I also thought it would look clean. I also used 1/4" gromits and 14g electrical cord to clean up the housing and it should also be water tight.
 
yeah Audi's and Benzes basically spray water on them now at high pressure. But the older benzes had wipers on them. I saw one for $4.99 on ebay.
 
For $20 I'll stick with shaping a cam out of acrylic. I finished up rev1 last night. I need to glue down the motor mount I just held it as I did all my testing.

I ended up using a very very short cam, its almost not even a cam but just a hook held onto my down tube. My arm is adjustable, thank God, and I just keep turning it out as far as it would go without hitting. I get about 45 degrees of turn, maybe a little more. In the begining my cam version only allowed about 20 degrees of turn.

I'll see if I can't get some pictures when I'm home at lunch. If not I'll be sure to get some in on sunday. I ended up tearing apart one of my rc cars for the adjustable arm. I need to get to a hobby store and get a few to play with, I'll do that saturday. Oh and now that I have the 2.5 rpm motor on and saw it run I don't think speed will be a problem at all!

So if you are going to do this, that 2.5rpm motor is going to work and the price is good. It takes about 1 second to make one pass, then you get a little pause, about a second for the return pass and a pause. Then it starts all over.
 
Man this is fun, you can make pretty much everything you need out of acrylic except the arm that attached between the motor arm and the cam. If you are going to work on it I suggest you get an adjustable arm, don't know what they are really called though. I beleive mine is about 2 inches long right now. I have a second one thats longer and it won't go short enough. If you have a choice get one with threads all the way down the middle. One of mine only threads about 1/2 way on each side and I couldn't get it adjusted enough. I think one that adjusts from about 1.5 inches to 2.5 inches would be perfect, at least in a 4x4 box.

I also had to use a 1" drill bit for my down tube hole and its not really 1" its a little bigger. I wish I had a drill bit the correct size so I didn't have to round it out by hand. You may want to pick one up if you don't want to have to do that also, but it works anyway. I don't remember off hand but anywhere with drill bits usually has 3/4" pvc to test with anyway.

Oh 14-16 gauge spade terminals are to big for that motor, I should have got smaller. I made the 14-16 fit but smaller would have fit better.

The smallest gromets I could find are 1/4 inch and the thick black covered electrical replacment power cord fit in it very tight, but it was like $5 for the cord rather than use a $1 cord and silicone to seal it.

I've been having so much fun with this thing, I can't wait to get my darn MJ's so I can work that in and get the mod started on them.
 
could somebody take pics of the mounting proces i still can't figure out the arm that the mj is mounted on how you get the arm to stay in the hole and that it can turn sorry for my stupidity

I know its fuzzy, just snapped a few before I ran back from lunch. But the darkest black lines are the start and end points. I guess its less than 45 degress more like 35.
