Yeah I thought about order a couple those but since there is no torque rating on it, I decided to go with the 2.5RPM motor instead.
A 3 watt motor is generally 20 in oz of torque.

Ok I have my motors and it looks like it moves slow enough @ 3.5RPM to be used for this mod. The problem is now that my local Home Stupid... I mean Depot doesn't have anything in the way of resembling a plastic cover box that I can use without having to do extensive surgery for it on the inside in order to fit the motor. Any ideas where I can get this?

dang you got your motors before me and I ordered mine first.. LOL. I also looked at home depot this weekend for the boxes and couldn't find them. I was going to try lowes tonight, anyone have any more info on them?

They have the boxes at menards, if you guys have one out there. They are a little pricey though,. $14 a pop. I decided to use a hobby box from radio shack.

Or you could just get out the acrylic and weld-on and make your own box easy enough. hunting around for parts can be more of a hassle than just making exactly what you want right off the bat.

d, I'm at work right now, so if we aren't talking about ds3's and dslams, I'm pretty much useless until 5pm lol.

I'll measure it when I get home

oh, and on another note. white bic pen tubes will fit over the gear perfect. I haven't completely got it tested, I'm still shaping my cams, but it should be firm enough.

D, sorry if I confused you. I'm making my cams out of styrene plastic, I used the pen for this, please excuse image quality.

so I guess it will be a short extension that I will connect to the cam.

As for cams, I was thinking about those oblong shaped "biscuits" that they use in woodworking. I was watching yankee workshop the other day and seems to me with a little sanding it may come out ok.

Another option, if you're like me, trying to "ghetto rig" it, might be cd cases. I used to use them when making models with the thick CA glue and accelerator, It was a really strong bond, but it's kinda hard to work with since it's so thin and brittle. I got a sheet of styrene from hobbytown for like 3 bux though, I think It will work out the best.

I'm hoping to have mine up and running, minus the mj stream on wed. I've got the next couple of days off, and will be sure to include part numbers on the motors and another DIY guide. This one is kinda spurting out because people are ****ed because they can't find THE motor the OP did.

The motors I picked up locally at the supply center are 3 rpm, and 2.5 rpm with a little trial and error with the cams, I think they will work out great. I'd like mine to move a little faster anyway I think, one or two of thse with my wave2k, should be incredible.

sorry to babble,

Daniel

Did ya check in the electrical department? The boxes are NEAR the plastic boxes for wall switches. Look for the PVC pipes in electrical, they should be near there. The kind of box in the picture above is, I think, a 6 x 6 inch box used for outdoor wiring.

Yep I checked all over Home Stupid... Er.. I mean Depot
They do have SOME plastic cover boxes but nothing that can be used easily. Would have been easier to just build your own box instead of those.

Did I mention that I think the people who work for Home Depot that I dealt with were pretty stupid?

Got mine in last night.. I have everything made up but a box. I made all the parts out of acrylic, but I'm not sure I want to do the box in arcylic. I think I'm going to go on lunch to lowes and the craft store and see if they have a better box. I'm also going to do a step-by-step of mine on the second one I build. First one is for testing.

I think the 2.5 rpm motor is going to be great, the 3/4rpm motor is SLOWWW. I'm not sure with the cam on it I would like it, we'll see. The X shaft on the 2.5 is also nice to work with, I just cut an x in acrylic and drilled a small hole in the shaft and inserted a small cotter pin. It was 1am when I fished up everything last night so I didn't even attempt the box.

oh yea.. I need a power cord, what I did was scary and no one should do it :)
