Grim, what would be the best placement of the following bulbs in a six bulb 48'' ati unit for SPS dominated tank?

Five ati blue plus, one UVL actinic white, one GE 6500k, One UVL 75/25.

Switching from an 8 bulb unit to a six bulb unit.

Thanks.

Does anyone know the weight of the ATI power module 8x80 fixture?

Does it have 2 or 3 cords to control the lights?

Does it come with a hanging kit or should I go get one myself?

In my 180 how high should I have it off the top of the tank and how low in the tank can I keep SPS / clams?

I should be getting mine in soon and just want to be ready when it arrives.

Thanks

Thanks, my fixture while bought from a local dealer / friend is actually coming from RG.

I've just seen differing info about the fixture concerning cords, amperage draw, etc and was wondering if anyone that had one could give me the skinny. Especially any tips on mounting it...

Hey Grim you definitely seem to know your stuff!

I got a 48" 6 bulb tek for Christmas and I plan on putting it on a 90 gallon 'peninsula' style tank. What kind of bulb layout would you use?

Thanks.

You can probably call reefgeek and get the weight and other specifics.

There is some info floating around on Reefgeeks forum here.

I would say you would want to keep the fixture within about 4 inches of the tank and the SPS up off the sand at least a little.

Grim

I have a 40 breeder with canopy and I want SPS reef with a few zoas on the sand.

Recommendations on Halides and/or T5s retros for SPS growth? I will be running fans and no chiller.

Thanks.

Standard driven 6 lamp retrofit kit would be plenty. Running a halide may or may not require a chiller depending on the room temp and how high about the water you can place the light.

Any recommendations on a good 6 lamp retro kit?

The tank will be in my basement so it is cool and it will be about 5 in. above the water in an enclosed canopy with 2 fans.

I would love to put in a 150k (love the shimmer) and two T5s with moons. Thoughts? Lights too close to water???

Thanks.

If the bottom of the reflector would be 5 inches from the top of the water you would be OK. If you only have 5 inches from the top of the tank to the top of the canopy I wouldn't try halides.

The Aqua Illuminations retrofitsd Reefgeek sells are good. So are the Ice Cap ones with the standard ballast and if the tank is over 24 inches tall the VHO version with Ice Cap ballasts.

I am setting up a 40 breeder with a TX5. What would be a good lamp setup? I am thinking

Actinic White
Aquablue Plus
Aquablue

Bad idea

That will leave you with the 2 blue plus for dusk/dawn and a 14K look with everything running.

Your mix would look pink and have a white dusk/dawn effect.

How does everyone go about changing their bulbs. Do you justbump the light period down? I don't want to shock my sps because there is about 3 hug colonys a couple inches from the water.

Thanks. Actually, the bottom of the reflector would be about 7 to 8 in above the water. 175k Halide??

I just don't believe there is enough room for 6 T5s in the canopy.

So if one Halide then what do you recommend for two t5's on either side of the halide?

Thanks
