1.Actinic +
2.10K
3.Fiji Purple
4.Actinic +
5.10k
6.14000k
7.Actinic + /Blue+
8.Actinic + /Blue+

i would even switch out some of the 10k's i dont care for them.

what look are you looking for more or less blue?

I'm going for the most color from the corals. I guess being more blue would show it better? Would this allow me to keep clams?

Hey Grim I have a 24 inch tall tank and I have the 8x54w Tek fixture. I would like to go with
Giessman bulbs. What combo would you recommend? Want the colors to pop.

The Fiji Purple is a pink/purple bulb with a lot of PAR. It accents the pinks reds and purples nicely.

On my 4 bulb setup I use

ATI Blue Plus
KZ Fiji Purple
GE6500K
ATI Blue Plus

It is definitely a 12k look and I hate it. I am switching out the GE for an Aquablue and that will put me up to a 15k look.

Thanks, I considered those yellow tubes but I guess I should forget about it if it takes 3 Blue Plus to cancel out the yellow.

While the Fiji Purple has lots of PAR, aren't the Blue Plus, Aquablue Special and others have similar PAR?

I guess I'll go with similar to what you are planning to have:

- ATI Blue Plus
- KZ Fiji Purple
- ATI Aquablue Special / ATI Blue Plus / Giesemann Pure Actinic (I guess it depends on how blue I want it to look)
- ATI Blue Plus

With tubes like ATI Blue Plus also making corals fluoresce, does the presence of actinic actually makes a difference? If not I guess I should go with the high PAR tubes.

I would do something like this:

Actinic Plus
Aquaflora
Actinic Plus
Aquablue
Actinic Plus
Aquablue
Aquaflora
Actinic Plus

Maybe only one Aquaflora. They are a pink bulb that will pull out your reds nicely.

If this is a softies and LPS tank then I like the actinic as it will pop some colors that the other bulbs will miss. You don't really need the PAR on a tank like this. Now if you want SPS or clams then use the Aquablue in place of the actinic.

PAR isn't the only thing to look at in lighting. I know people want us to believe that but it isn't the case. You need to give the corals a full range of spectrum. 4 Blue Plus bulbs over that tank is a ton of PAR but your corals will suffer from the lack of spectrum.

I think Rparty's recommendation of
Blue +
Kz Fiji Purple
Blue +
AB special

is perfect... i think you'd likely be very happy with that combo, i'm running a similar combo in my 6 bulb fixture.

hey, im working on setting up lighting for a standard 55 gallon.

i have a 4x54W T5HO setup ill be putting together. bulb 1 and 3 will be on one ballast and bulb 2 and 4 will be on another ballast. looking for a setup that will allow me to run one ballast morning and evening, and both during the day with leds at night. i am thinking of keeping LPS (brain, candy cane), ric's and zoa's. possibly SPS in the future.

i was thinking:
BACK
ATI Blue+ (actinic)
KZ Fiji-purple
ATI Blue+ (actinic)
ATI Aquablue Special (12000 K)
FRONT

thanks

just wondering if this would give me that 15000k+ look? brighter white blue look then yellow?

I would dump one of the Current Blues.

I personaly would dump one of the current 10k's but I just don't like thier color. They, mixed with the blues, left a greenish hue I didn't like. I pulled them all. I have no idea what the par hit would be though.

I run:

- ATI Blue Plus
- ATI Blue Plus
- KZFiji Purple
- ATI Blue Plus

And it has a killer 20k look! Pops colors like crazy!

Thinking about going for a 15k look though, what should I replace one of the Blue Plus with, maybe an Aquablue Special? I heard those wash out colors though...

Grim tested the AquaZ.

http://sites.google.com/site/tfivetesting/par

I think they are Chinese and they are cheap in LFS here. I have used one for a year or two, I don't have a PAR meter but it is still alive.

Btw, is the Fiji Purple a purple version of the Blue Plus type tube? Bright yet still intensely coloured? Or is it just white tubes with a hint of purple?

That site is great. Grim, you should just be pasting a link to it at least every other page. That answers soo many questions and what I was talking about when I mentioned putting a sticky on the front end of this thread.

Ok now that I've gone over that site I hate to chime back in and ask the same question but I need to replace a bulb. I don't like the look of the tank at the momement. I tried a Fiji Purple but I didn't like that either. Here is what I'm running.

Ati Blue Plus
UV Actinic White
Current 460 Actinic
Current 10K
Ati blue Plus
Current 460 Actinic

The tank is tooo bright for me. I tried switching the the 10k for the fiji but it didn't dim it much and just made it a little more pink with out a noticible difference in coral colors. I've temporarily switched the 10k with another current 460 actinic but that is 3 lower par bulbs but does come close to the color I like but maybe a little too blue.

Do you think the ati aquablue would do in place of the 10k or would that keep the tank to bright? My other idea is to replace another current 460 actinic with a uvl super actinic

It'll look white with an aquablue special mixed in.

Maybe look into a KZ New Generation 14000K bulb. It is a little bluer than the ATI Aquablue

Grim's new site is way better and he can update it as needed. Click on Grim's name and go to his homepage.

I don't think he has the PAR readings on the new site though.

I know you are reading this Grim! Add the PAR readings if you haven't already.

He does have par reading on the bulbs. The only thing he needs to do is work on his menu system to make it easier to get between pages. Oh, and maybe some fancy graphics:bigeyes:

Sorry for the questions. But what about a 72" Current Pro light on a 24 inch tall tank? It has 12 39 watt bulbs would I be able to keep sps?

YOu will need to change the bulbs in that fixture and then keep up the SPS up on the rocks under the lights.

I would look into an ATI Sunpower in the 6x80W version. You can choose your bulbs and will only have to replace 6 of them instead of 12 when it comes time.
