is there anything you could suggest that would help me out.is there any other lights that might be cheaper

You could try a Tek light with a external fan blowing across the center of it from the back of the tank, just don't direct the airflow at the lamps, just have it pointed so the rear edge of the fixture splits it so some passes over the top and some over the bottom.

I would hit the clam forum and find out the best way to feed them and make sure you spot feed once a week cause I really don't think you will be getting enough light to the bottom to sustain them without some supplemental feeding

I just bought a Tek 6X54, it comes with 12 bulbs:

3x UVL Super Actinic
2x UVL Actinic White
3x Giesmann Aquablue +
1x Giesmann Actinic +
1x Giesmann Pure Actinic
1x Giesmann 6000k Midday
1x Koralien-Zucht Fiji Purple

What would be a good combination?

I would get at least 2 More Actinic Plus or ATI Blue Plus lamps and put them in place of the rear 2 lamps.

grim, i went ahead and order a 6 bulb tek t5.i moved my sand bed up so there is only 23 inches from the bed to the surface of the water.what kind of bulb combo do you think will be the best for my clam, color and growth of my reef?thanks

Use the 6" clamp on fan, check bed bath and beyond for them. I think reefgeek might sell one too.

:lmao::lmao::lmao: Grim, you crack me up man. Looks like a very nice build you got going on, I will find your build thread and tag along.

It;t just a post in another thread in the DIY section, LED's the write up. It's a pretty simple build. I will probably do a build thread as I put the system together.

It's a long story but I have lots of 4' bulbs, reflectors and ballasts, Tek retros. I got a smoken deal on a 6' tank. I was thinking I could use what I have and stagger the 4' bulbs or get 5' bulbs and stuff. Since I'm on a budget useing what I have would be great but I don't want it to look wierd. So If I used 4 4' bulbs on each side with 8 in the middle is it going to look way brighter in the middle?

Also, if I went the 5' route what should I get? Since I want some sps I need atleast 6? The tank is a 6x2x2 180g.

Try 8 4 foot lamps staggered if you have all the stuff. Do the stagger 6" each way so you will get a fade effect. It could look really cool

Hey Grimm

I have a frag tank that is 92"L x 36"D x 15"T should I run 2 48" 8bulbs, if so what light combo would you recommend, and how far up from the water level

thanks

I have a 36" x 15" x 17" tank with a 250W Metal Halide 2x65W PC fixture running a 14K Phoenix DE bulb. There are a few pieces of SPS, some zoanthids, montipora, frogspawn, torch, and a crocea clam.

I'm thinking of converting over to a T5 unit. Would you recommend a 4 or 6 bulb T5 unit?

Any preferences in terms of manufacturer? The ones I've seen online are AquaticLife, Current USA Nova Extreme, IceCap Reef Illuminations, Wave Point, CoralVue, and Sunlight TEK light.

Thanks in advance for your replies and help :)

Hello everyone and Grim, :wavehand:

I would like to upgrade my 90 gallon from power compacts to T5. I have a hood over my tank so retro would probably be the way to go. I was thinking I should be able to fit 6 lights in my hood.

My question is, what is the best retro kit I can buy right now? Price does not matter.

Thanks in advance.
Serge

LET Lighting retro kit from Reefgeek. Get the 6 bulb in the High Output version, not the Very High Output. You don't need to overdrive the bulbs on a 90.

Make sure you get some good fans too to help cool the bulbs. You want to cool the label end of the bulbs.

For 6 bulbs I would run:

ATI Blue Plus
KZ Fiji Purple
ATI Blue Plus
KZ New Generation
ATI Aquablue
ATI Blue Plus

It's time to replace some bulbs on my T5 fixture that currently runs the stock 2 10k bulbs and 2 actinics. I'd like to replace the 10k with a 12k for a bluer appearance; however, is there a better combo available for a 4-bulb fixture that will give that look but not sacrifice function?

KZ New Generation? I didn't see these at reefgeeks.

Hey Grim i got a Current Nova Extreme Fixture 72" back in January...
How long are these bulbs good for?
I was also interested in some awesome moonlights to add to the tank.. Any recommendations?

what bulbs shoud I connsider"
tank is 48x18x30. the tank is an island style viewable form both sides

setup for now will be

2 VHO atinics on the outsides, and
an array of 4 T5 HO's - I'm considering 4 like bulbs in the 12k range

the outside lamps will eventually get replaced with T5's so suggestions for these are also welcome

In addition I am seriously considering adding the Cree LED's for the shimmer effect. I'm thinking a bank of 6 on each side between the VHOs and T5's.

thanks in advance for any suggestions
I'm ordering parts and bulbs tonight

I should add the T5s will be driven by an Icecap 660 using Icecap reflectors
