Hey grim quick question on my 90g I have a marineland pro light with 2 150 de hqi bulbs and 4 t5 it's a 48 inch fixture I'm keeping mostly lps and zoas with some montis and it's bulb change time would I be better off upgrading to a tek elite or ati sunpower instead of my current light or just change the bulbs out. If I would be better off replacing bulbs what would you recommend for replacing all the lights for great color/fluorescence and par/growth.
Thanks in advance

6 lamp sunpower and don't look back :D 4 ATI Blue Plus, 1 Purple Plus and a Aquablue.

sorry but this might help here is the specs on my tank 54"L/24"W'/27"H, sps, lps, & zoas. i also have the bulbs it came with that are around 6months old. 3-geis atinic+, 2-uvl super atinic, 1-ati abs, 1- aquasun, & ecolux 3000. whats a good height to hang it above the tank. thanks a headed of time.

I'd keep it within about 4" of the water

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread. I never asked a question in it, but read through and it helped me immensely with my lighting choices!

I have a 24"x24"x18"high tank. I'm going to run 24" 4x24watt T5HO.
I'm mostly going to keep zoas and bta. Im planning on getting all UVL bulbs.
What 4 bulb combo do you recommend?
* V-HOR Indigo Sun (50% Triband blue 50% Triband White)
* V-HO 75.25 14K
* V-HOR 454 Ultra Blue (85% Triband blue 15% 420nm)
* V-HO actinic white bulb 12K
* V-HO Super actinic bulb 420nm
Thanks for all the help!!

Santi anni, my old stomping grounds...

If you want a Anemone 4 lamps isn't much light and I sure wouldn't recommend using UVL lamps, they don't have a lot of PAR.

Thanks Grim and others for the wealth of information shared here!

We're looking to start up a 40G breeder for a mixed reef, and I'm struggling with light fixture selection. The tank dimensions are 36x18x16. We don't have anything with high lighting demands yet (our existing tank is an 8g biocube), but I want to spend the money just once and not have to upgrade down the line. OTOH I don't want to over-buy either.

Would a 4x39 be sufficient for a 40 gallon breeder or should we get a 6x39?

It's going to be tank mounted (as opposed to hung). Would we need to worry about heat buildup? I'm not planning on buying a chiller, unless we really have to.

I know ATI fixtures are very good, but just way out of our budget. Would a 6x39 Tek Elite be a good choice? I found a used one for a very good price and am trying to decide.

Thanks,
Mat

Q: What's better in terms of PAR and color rendition, a brand new Wavepoint bulb or a 10 month old ATI bulb? Assuming both are of equal spectra.

Thanks grim greatly appreciate it. So my bulbs were ordered for my current fixture will upgrade to a new fixture in a few months. Do you have an opinion on 2 phoenix 14k and a Fiji purple aquablue plus and 2 geissman blue plus type bulbs they were Out of ati blue plus so he recommended the geissman version
Thanks again

Yeah, 6x39 Tek would be fine on that tank

Dunno, depends on how hard the ATI lamp was ran but if it was being cooled properly and the Wavepoint lamps are coming out of China my money would be on the ATI LOL!

Should be fine

Really! The ATI's are THAT good? We're talking proper cooling with a fan that blows air and whatnot.

My two ATI's are about 10 months old, and I'm considering replacing them with new ATI's.

Would the color and output of par be good in you opinion and I'm ordering my bulbs for the new tank it is 48x24x25 how many bulb fixture would you recommend and it will be lps dominant with mass quantity of wrasses
