It's 4 x 39w.
Are you going to use a canopy or only a fixture?
Retrofit into my exsisting hood...

So I guess the single reflector per bulb is ideal, what about bulb choices?

Also, is 4x39 (even overdriven) going to be enough light? I know PC isn't equal to T5, but thats 240 less base watts I would have.

Rich....Yes it would be enough as 39w lamps overdriven by a 660 run at ~60w each, but i would do 5 for color options and total coverage.

Yup, Icecap SLR's will increase your output quite nicely :)

Look through this thread and "T5 Q&A Thread" in the lighting forum.

What overall look are you wanting?

Good quality, even and natural light... as good as my current setup or better.

I just didn't want to spend 6-700 on lighting to go backwards.

Will one 660 provide me with enough juice for 5 bulbs or would I have to suppliment?

1 660 will overdrive 4-54w lamps. You could get a 430 for the fifth and, or sixth lamps.

Natural lightig sounds like a mix of something like:
ATI Aquablue special
UVL-S.A.
UVL AquaSun
ATI Blue+
ATI Aquablue special
(if you only ran 4 then I would remove the Blue+)

The KZ lamps might interest you as well.
I will have both kinds to play with and give reviews nest week.

What kind of par numbers do you guys normally get when testing directly below the lamps about 5"? I got about 590 and was wondering if that is considered to be good. Alo, what parmeter is best for th money.

Well I am going to be buying parts tonight or tommorrow for an instalation next weekend.

When you say 4-54w lamps, you are still reffering to the 48" lamps... just making sure since we are talking about 2 different awauriums... my 65 I have now which I have to replace the lights next weekend... thats my primary concern, the 120 I am only now speccing out for a build within the next 3 - 5 months.

Will a 660 overdrive all the lights I need for my 65 gallon?

A single 660 will overdrive only 4-36"(39w) lamps.
That why i said you could just get a 430 for the fifth and,or sixth lamps if you get that many.

Matt -

Do you think 4 lights would be enough or should I go for 5 - 6 ?

I want the ability to house almost anything, but in all honesty I won't have any clams in this tank and more "run of the mill stuff" frogspawn, GSP, riccordia and zooanthids, but I would like to add some montiporia when I redo this tank in a few months.

Thanks for all the help.

Just a quickie.
Tank is lps.
Would like to be able to keep the odd sps.
10x 54w T5 is about to be implemented

what mix of bulbs would you guys go for?

I am upgrading from a 55 gallon to a 240 gallon tank. I am currently running 5 t5 bulbs 1 6500k, 2 blue plus, 1 UVL SA, and 1 Aquablue. I would like to get the same color and good par for the 240. I will be running 4 250w de pendants with a 4X54w t5 retro with 2 blue plus and 2 UVL SA. Which de bulbs should I get?

i currently have 2 glue plus bulbs and 2 aquablue (60/40) bulbs that are 11k. I would like it to be a little bit bluer would it be better to swap the 11k bulbs out with 12k bulbs or would it be better to use the new uvl 14k bulbs.

also, what it the par value for the new uvl 14k bulbs?

Alright guys (Grim & Eagles) thanks for the help... I ended up going with the CoralVue T5's on recommendation of Tgreene... I checked out his photo album of his tank, and decided that those lights cannot be all that bad... I will let everyone know if you are interested.

I would like to know where to get a PAR meter, so that you guys can walk me through testing these lights... It seems as though no one has done this for the CoralVue, and I think it would benefit this thread to have the info on them

Now, for my needs!!! I am going to use the bulbs that come with the unit for a while, and I will get advice on the config. of them, and let you guys know exactly what bulbs they are
My question is this: When I decide to start replacing them, I will need to know what some recommendations are for what bulbs to buy, and how to configure them
Can you guys help me out here?

Thanks,

Boy, I tell you that it never ends.... Every time I order something for my tank, I always find a better deal on something the next day... WITHOUT QUESTION!!! I have ordered the T5's, and then I got an email about this today... I really missed out on these... Maybe this will help SOMEONE out!!!

I would use a couple actinics, a GE 3000K or UVL Aquasun, A GE 6500K daylight, A Couple Aquablues and the rest Blue Pluses

grim, just a quick question i have a solar flare fixture that will go on my new 30 in deep reef tank, can you give me your opionion on bulb type, bulb placement and run times please thanks for your time,
ray
bump???

For Grim and the other T5 experts out there, I have a few questions. I tried reading back several pages but this thread moves so fast it wasn't helpful. If this is a repeat of an age old question I apologize in advance.

I have an Oceanic 75g rr with an Oceanic canopy. It currently has 4x110 VHOs running on a IC660 ballast that is many years old. I have only softies and LPS at this point but am open to sps/clams if doable. I like the vho's fine but the URI-aquasuns are a little too pink for my liking. Do you think I would be able add a new ballast and 4x54 retro t5's and keep 2 vho bulbs for pure actinic? I have a clip fan at the back of the canopy which is open except for the hinge for the top, but that is the extent of my active cooling. If I can pack that many bulbs in the canopy, what would you suggest for bulbs, ballast, reflectors?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Grim, what bulb configuration would you go with on a 36"Lx20"wx14"H 4 sided tank? I like a little bluer look and I'd like to make it a mixed reef with clam. Also would you recommend the Tek2 retro or the Icecap? Thanks
