The T5 Q&a Thread

What T5 fixtures would you recommend to light a 210 Gallon FOWLR? The tank is 7ft. x 2ft. by 2ft. It's a butterfly tank so any corals are out of the question, but I would like to grow some coraline algae and would of course like to bring out the colors on the fish.

A couple of 4x39 watt fixtures would be fine.

Not sure on lamps but I think I would try a ATI Pro Color, Blue Plus, Aquablue and a GE 6500K daylight in each fixture.

Grim, I am ordering an ATI Fixture for a 120 SPS dominate tank, 48" long should I go with a 8 or 6 bulb and what is your recommendation for a bulb combination for said tank. Thanks in advance.

Go 8

Front
ATI Blue Plus
UVL Super Actinic
ATI Pro Color
ATI Aquablue
GE 6500K
UVL 75/25
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Aquablue

You may have to tweak the positions a little. I would order a Blue Plus lamp as a spare so you can try different mixes.

Quick question - quick breeze through 20 pages didn't answer...

Running a 2 x 24w sunlight supply new wave t5 over a 10g tank (overhangs...). Tank is a mixed stock - softies, LPS and some easier SPS.

Currently using an ATI 11k and an ? Actinic

Way too blue...

Local store recomended a KZ Fiji purple in place of the actinic. What would you recommend? The 11k alone seems way to dim / purple (I'm wondering if the bulbs faulty - Very dim in comparison to the actinic).

I personally like the 12/14ks in my halides - What would you recommend to achieve this with only 2 bulbs to work with?

Grim, I've got a 30 gallon tank. Mostly keeping LPS and zoanthids. Currently have 2x39, 1 blue+ and 1 aquablue. That along with 190w VHO superactinic. The T5 are on ICR and all lamps are run through an IC660. Was thinking of replacing the VHOs (or maybe just one of them) with T5s. What do you recommend as far as lamp combos?

Thanks Grim.

Garrett.

grim,
I hoping you can help me out. im up grading from a 150 gallon reef mostly sps to a 210 72*24w*29h im running 4 six foot VHO lights all my sps are doing great with VHO. I want to change to T5'S when i set up the 210 could you give me an idea what bulbs to use 36'' or 60'' and what color bulbs.

I would add a UVL Aquasun T5 to what you have now. Should bring out some more colors for you.

I would keep 2 Actinic VHO's and add 6 T5's (80 watt 60" lamps) if you don't have high light critters out to the ends of the tank.

The Mix of T5's should look 14k halide like.

If you have a bunch of SPS and need full lighting out to the ends. With the 60" lamps you would want to keep SPS in about 8" from each end.

thanks again.....would there be any benefit to use 36'' T5s to go the length of the tank?

The down side is twice as many bulbs to replace.

Hey Grim
Currently I have the out of box configuration for the 48" Current Nova Extreme(8bulb). I have a 72g bowed at 22" high. I have LPS, SPS, and softies in the tank. I have Acropora, Montipora, and Alvepora all doing well. They are all growing and thriving. I have been thinking about new bulbs and was wondering what your recommendation would be for this type of set up.
Thanks

I'm getting into this thread way late, and w/o having to read 60+ pages of posts, does anyone know if there's a 6-8 bulb 24" fixture out there or do I have to DIY a retro to accomplish this? The reason I ask is I want to be able to do LPS on a 45g cube that's 24x24 so I'm thinking a 6 bulb would be fine. If I have to retro, what kit is suitable for doing this?
