I may have answered my own ?! Sounds like if I get individual reflectors, a 4 bulb retro would be plenty for 18" deep tank(24x24x18h) if I plan on keeping LPS mid range on the rockwork?

Hey Grim
Currently I have the out of box configuration for the 48" Current Nova Extreme(8bulb). I have a 72g bowed at 22" high. I have LPS, SPS, and softies in the tank. I have Acropora, Montipora, and Alvepora all doing well. They are all growing and thriving. I have been thinking about new bulbs and was wondering what your recommendation would be for this type of set up.
Thanks

Try this

Front
Blue Plus
UVL Super Actinic
ATI Pro Color
ATI Aquablue
GE 6500K Daylight
UVL 75/25
Blue Plus
Aquablue

Should look blue but not as blue as you might think going by the lamp names. I would order a spare Blue Plus just in case. You may fel the need to swap out the center Aquablue for a more blue lamp.

If you arent doing clams or a lot of SPS 4 will do it.

Thanks, Grim...I am so use to having white light for part of the day, but you say that this configuration which will be bluish is a more effective config?

So would 6 do it if I wanted to do sps later on? or would I need 8?

I don't know that it will give you any better growth but it should look very cool. The corals can only use so much light. 8 lamps over a 22" tall tank is a lot even without reflectors.

6 or 8 but if you do retros you can add them in as needed.

grim,
do think there is anyway to run T5's on a 36'' deep tank 6feet long? and keep SPS?

thanks

Sure, as suppliments for your 400 watt metal halides.:D

Seriously if you want SPS anywhere other than the top third of the tank you need 400 or even 1000 watt halides on that big a tank

I was thinking of maybe adding a clip on 150W MH to the setup. What would be your thinking on this?

Hey Grim, Have you heard anything about ATI having a dimmable T5 Powermodule, and if so any word if anyone has one here in the states. Reef Geek is the only importer I know of and I sent them a message regarding this. Just wondering what you think of the possibility of doing a sunrise sunset with T5's.

I have read this thread b4 and i could have sworn i saw somewhere that it is possible to fit SLR reflectors in the Teklight fixture. The reason i ask is b/c i am getting ready to replace my bulbs and would like to upgrade my reflectors at the same time, i just cant seem to find the post that had pictures that said u could fit the IceCap reflectors in the teklight, someone please redirect me i might have just missed it but know i saw it in here before. Thanks

reefgeek :) decent price, get yourself the SLS if yo cant afford the SLR as they are 10 bux vs. the 20 unless they brought the prices back up.

That sounds good, now I have:

- ATI Sun Pro
- ATI Blue Plus
- ATI Aquablue Special
- UV Super Actinic

- ATI Pro Color
- ATI Blue Plus

Grim,

I just noticed that my ATI Sun Pro is about to die, what should I get to replace it? I was thinking about the GE 6500K Daylight which is what you suggested before the Pro Color.

Don't think a 150 would add anything but a little heat and power usage.

Thanks, Grim...Took your advice and picked up the first two bulbs. Will add them slowly over the next couple of weeks as to not shock the tank..

I believe you are thinking of the Nova fixture. Dont know how you could cram them into the tek.
