Looking for some advice on a t5 setup for a 64 gal (36x18x24). My plans are to have some softies, LPS and maybe a few SPS and a clam but very little sps.

I'm looking at the Aquactinic tx5. What would be the best bulbs?

Thanks

ATI Blue Plus
UVL Super Actinic
UVL Aquasun
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Aquablue

Tagging on.... does anyone know what retailer(s) sell a 60" fixture or retro?

Reefgeek for sure, maybe Aquarium Specialty

Ducky swell meaning I can keep pretty much anything I want anywhere in the tank??

Yep, I mean use a little common sense about placement, high light critters up on the rocks at least a little but you shouldn't be limited.

I totally understand.

I am definitely interested in clams. With this fixture, would the clams be ok in the sand?? Or should they be up on the rocks...

Re: Re: What T5 Bulbs with Reflux 150W 12K MH ?

Hi Grim. I took your advise and swapped out a Super Actinic with a 75/25 UVL lamp. LOVE this combination! I like the looks of the tank now when the T5's only are lit. Was too blue before. I replaced the UVL Super Actinic and the 2 ATI Blue Plus bulbs with the same. Any specific order that you'd place them in the fixture with a 150W MH 10k bulb or does it not matter as long as the two Blue Plus' aren't next to each other? Have to replace the MH now. Out of the Reflux 10k and 12k, which would you suggest? I like a white with blue tint look. Thanks, Pam

I've been running with an Elos 10K 150W MH bulb, with two UVL Super Actinic and two ATI Blue Plus T5's. I've been considering switching from the Elos 10k to a Reflux 12K MH. Should I go with different T5's than what I have now? When my T5's only are lit right now, it's a bit too blue for my taste. The corals look great, but the fish are washed out. When the MH and T5's are lit, the fish look great, but the coral aren't as nice looking. Color of the tank is much better with the MH and T5's lit together, but I don't know what to get for T5's if I switch to the Reflux 12K MH. I like a hint of blue, without it being overly blue.

Thanks!
Pam

Grim,

I am the most indecisive person when it comes to my light fixture. Here is an overview of what I plan.

75 gallon tank. Light will either hang or be on legs, it will not sit directly on tank. I have a Sebae nem, I wish to keep LPS, softies and maybe -- if I can find any local after I gain experience -- SPS. The next deciding factor is I am doing a minimalist tank, so all livestock will be placed in the lower half of the tank. I do not wish to bleach Low Light livestock but also would like to have some sort of High Light livestock. I do not think I will ever have a clam.

I am stuck between two fixtures both by Aquactinics. Either the 7 bulb Aquactinics Constellation or the TX5, a 5 bulb fixture.

I want a pleasing light combination that is not too blue. Keeping my need in mind, which fixture would you recommend and which bulbs should I get? Also, what is the minimum and maximum distance that the light should be from the top of the tank?

I can't thank you enough for helping me out on this.

Hi Grim

Im running my constellation on my 48x20x20. it sits about 4inchs off the water. how far down could i keep sps? would a clam on the sand be ok? my sps up the top are going well but wanted to keep some about half way. would be about 12inchs from the bulbs.

bulb combo is FRONT

Blue plus
Aqua blue
blue plus
Fiji purple
Blue plus
Aqua sun
Blue plus

Is this bulb combo ok as im get more and more SPS

thanks heaps.

t5 bulbs

t5 bulbs

What do you guys think of this bulb choice for a 6 bulb tek 2 retrofit? 2 ATI Blue Plus 1 UVL super actinic 1 ATI Aquablue 1 UVL aquasun 1 ATI Pro Color

GRIM,
im looking at getting the 4ft tek8 bulb fixture but would like more color/pop out of my corals than growth. would the following configuration in lights work for me? this is going over a 90.

For 8 rows I'd do this

Front
Blue Plus
Aquablue
ATI Pro Color
Blue Plus
UVL Aquasun
Blue Plus
GE 6500K Daylight
Blue Plus

Should look tasty.

Clams should be good in the sand. If you have baby maximas or croceas (which like rocks anyway) should maybe be elevated a little just to be safe.

front

Actinic or 75/25
as above
Blue Plus

If you think you want a little more blue than you have now with all the lights on go with the 12K lamp. Otherwise go 10K.

Do the constellation. Reason being you can set the front lamps slots with lower PAR lamps so softies wont melt and high light in the rear for SPS and the anemone

Front
ATI Blue Plus
UVL 75/25
UVL Super Actinic
ATI Aquablue
Blue Plus
Aquasun
Blue Plus

You could set the fixture right on the tank or have it as high as you want. If its going to be more than about 4" above the tank use a second Aquablue instead of the UVL 75/25

Yes to all. You could probably keep acros on the sand if you wanted to.
