I have a 54 corner tank which is in need of newer 24w t5 lamps. The current lamps are 2 actinic and 2 10,000. I grow a lot of zoas with this setup. What would you recommend as far as brand and type?

Thanks

Oh hell no, got involved in another project trying to repair a guy's closed loop pump. Gimmi a day or so. I need to play with the camera settings to try to get an accurate shot. Running this many blue lamps really causing the camera to see a lot more blue than is really there. I know there is a way to compensate for it, Im just not sure how:D

This has been about the best shot I can get.

And its still too blue. Full tank shots were even worse.

Grim,
I've been reading through this thread for days and I have my lamp choices narrowed down to 4 combos. I'm going with the 36" 6 lamp Tek on a 24" high 65 gallon. I would like to keep primarily LPS with some SPS on the rocks (mostly montipora) and a clam possibly on the sand. Which option would be the best.
Option 1:
ATI Aqua Blue
ATI Blue Plus
GE 6500k
Giessman Pure Actinic
ATI Blue Plus
Geissman Actinic Plus

Option 2:
Giesemann Actinic
ATI Blue Plus
UVL Aquasun
ATI Aquablue
ATI Procolor
ATI Blue Plus

Option 3:
ATI Blue Plus
UVL Super Actinic
ATI Blue Plus
UVL Aquasun
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Aquablue

Option 4:
AquaScience DUO
ATI Blue Plus
ATI ProColor
KZ Fiji Purple
ATI Blue Plus
AquaScience special 15k

Thanks, your the man!

Option 3-A
ATI Blue Plus
UVL Super Actinic
UVL Aquasun
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Aquablue
ATI Blue Plus

I know what you mean about getting the camera to show the true colors of the tank... I got a camera for Christmas, nothing fancy, but I still can't figure out the white balance stuff..the tank always either looks too blue OR too white... AND... I also know about getting involved in a million other things...LOL :)

what's needed to over clock the bulbs? i've ordered 2 of the 3ft 4 bulb ice cap retros which comes with : 8 light ends, 8 3 ft reflectors, and 2 ic 660 ballasts. i plan on running bulbs something like this: if this is going to be to to blue any suggestions are welcome bulbs haven't been ordered yet. hopeing to get good growth and get some nice coloration. and hear great things about the ati bulbs. i just hope it's not way to blue.

ati aqua blue special

a white bulb of some sort haven't figured out one yet

I have a 30-inch canopy that is equipped with four of the 30-inch Helios t5 actinic bulbs and a 250 phoenix halide. I am considering trading out two of the helios and going with one ATI pro color and one "actinic". With the idea of trying to bring out more colors during the dusk and dawn lighting periods. Do you guys think this would help or not look good?

Which T5 is closest in color to the VHO actinics? I've heard the Korallen Zucht - Coral Light Fiji Purple or the Sfiligoi's Super Actinics are good. Are there any others? Which one of the two would you guys recommend?

I'm sure that the answer lies somewhere already in this T5 thread...but my eyes are going blurry trying to read it all.:)

xhappyx... aquablue special bulbs do not really show as blue in our tanks, so I don't think that combo will be too blue. On the contrary, it MIGHT be too WHITE...JMO I honestly think you need some more ATI blue Plus instead of so many of the Aquablue specials

The lamps are automatically overdriven when Ice Cap ballasts are used.

If anything the above mix of lamps might not have enought blue. The aquablue lamps are ice white with a hint of blue to them.

yea.... I have learned alot from you Grim...:)

The Helios actinics lamps are not great, they make a nice super blue lamp. I would do 2 Sfigiloi actinics A Pro Color and a Blue Plus. Should look very cool.

grim,
I tried but it tells me that my files are to big I hasve a canon 30d
How do i get smaller files?

Windows powertools has a picture resizer. You can also open up a photobucket account (its free) and lhost the pics there and use the img tags to post it into a thread.

i think this is the righ place? i've got issues! lol my tank dims are 23.5 x 24.5 x 16 and was wondering what would be the best setup for the price. i was thinking of doing a retro of some sort maybe 4 x 24 front to back inside the canopy i made for my 20" sunpod or do you guys/ gals think that would like funny? i've seen a fixture that has 20" and has two bulbs so i could run 3 of those fixtures left to right as they each have 2 bulbs but they are single reflectors for two bulbs..
any info would be great!

thanks,

Alright Grim.

Aquactinics is coming out with new reflectors for their T-5 system. Their current reflectors are 95% reflective "Micro IV" aluminum. Their new reflectors are 98% reflectivity "Micro Silver" reflectors.

My guess is that this will increase the light output of this fixture. I am planning on upgrading the 95% reflective reflectors for the new 98% reflective reflectors in my Tx5 fixture.

Do you know how much of an increase in light output (PAR) will be seen?? Is the increase going to be 3%?? That seems too easy, but who know...

I would just like to hear your opinion on this. These new reflectors will now not only leave the tek fixture in the dust in terms of PAR, but inch it closer to the Powermodule. ;)

i just have a quick question for the t5 gods. I have 8 39watt powered by 2 work horse 7 ballast and would like a bulb suggestion? I like a blue look to my tank but would really like to get everything stunning. Oh ya this is for a sps tank! Thanks ahead of time for your time for such a common question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks again Abe
