I would do 2 Actinic Plus, one Aquablue and 1 UVL Aquasun.

The UVL lamp doesn't run any harder on the IC ballast than any other brand. They might last a little longer due to the beefier electrodes.

i'm confused, when do the uvl run at 40Watts

Hey Grim,
I have a 4' long T5 HO light fixture, with eight bulbs. I am looking for advice on what types of T5 bulbs I should put in it. There are two ballasts, each one on there own power supply. Ever other bulb is controlled by each ballast. Softies and LPS

do 4 Blue Plus, one UVL Super Actinic one UVL Aquasun, one GE Daylight 6500K and one ATI Aquablue

Grim-
I just bought a Solar Flare to go on my 120g. I'm looking to get a 15K look. What bulbs should I use? Also, how high off of the water should I hang it?

Thanks.

They don't. Its idiotic marketing hype that damned near led me to quit recoing their products. The Ice Cap ballast overdrives T5 lamps. What UVL did was beef up the electrodes in the lamp so theoretically the lamps will better withstand being overdriven. They list the wattage Ice Cap claims the ballast drives the lamps at and calls them VHO.

I like those. The ATI and Sfigiloi actinics are nice too.

Could you suggest a single bulb to go over a race way frag system. 48" long, 5" front to back and 6" deep.

Thanks

I have a 26" long x 18" wide x 18" tall tank. Would the 4 x 24" ATI powermodule be strong enough to not limit where I could place SPS? I'm trying to decide between this and running 4 x 24" icecap retro kit (with the icecap 660).

Hey Grim,

Can you tell any difference between the GE 6500K and the G-mann 6000K Midday (besides about $7.00)...?

I've heard the G-mann has a little more balanced spectrum, but I'm betting the eye can't tell...

Also, what's the PAR ratings that you got for the 6000's...?

Hi again,

i have 2 more questions for you. do you know what the difference between ATI powermodul and sunpower? (other than looks and price)

I have 4 fans blowing in from the back of my hood. 2 in the middle and 1 each blowing down the end caps. Are the 2 in the middle doing any harm? should i remove them?

thanks

Is the UVL 39W 10000K AquaSun T5 HO Fluorescent which is very pink/red considerably better for the corals than a ATI aquablue? My tank is a bit red/pink than I like but don't want to compromise happy coral (orange monti and lps mostly)

thanks

Hi Grim, I'm going to replace my Maristar with 14K phoenix and 2 pure actinic with TX5. I have clams on the sand bed and SPS upper half of the tank. Is this a good combo? Looking for lotsa of PAR and the look I got now.

5' T5 Bulbs from UVL

5' T5 Bulbs from UVL

I'm upgrading a 90g tank to a 125g tank and wanted to move from 6x 54w bulbs to 6x 80w bulbs. I run several UVLs and wasn't able to find them for sale, so I wrote the company. Apparently the decision hasn't been made to actually manufacture them yet and they're looking for feedback from potential customers.

For anyone who is interested in 5' T5 bulbs from UVL, I spoke with one of their sales people today and he asked for anyone who is interested to please email them. If you are, send an email to sales@uvlco.com and tell them you're interested. The sales rep I spoke with was Jeremy McLellon, make sure you mention his name so that he will get the request. Apparently they're trying to gauge interest and find out if it's worth it or not.

On an up note, they have a new 454nm bulb coming out as well as an "Indigo Sun". Last but not least, they're about to give us T5s with internal reflectors... how cool is that?

Thanks,
Ed

Can I change the reflectors in the nova fixture? If so with what?

Thx again,

You could maybe squeeze aquactinic reflectors in, they are 2" wide

ATI or Giesemann Aquablue. Lot of PAR and fair amount of blue.

The ATI fixture would be fine.

7 bux sounds about right. The GE had like 8% more PAR. I couldnt really see a difference in the lamps.

Pull the middle fans.

Performance wise I suspect they are going to be about equal. The Sunpower is more boxy looking but is a finished unit. Not sure about price differences but as far as I know you can only get them in the 220v market.
