ok, thanks for your thoughts here. i am switching the ballasts out aswell. only thing i needed was the bulbs but i want to make sure i get a good color combo right from the start. i was worried that the tank would not be bright enough using too many blue bulbs.

would this combo work as well as the one you mentioned? i am ordering from a site that only carries the following bulbs.

aquatic life
URI
current
coralife

could this combo work well?

Front
UVL super atinic
UVL 75/25
halide
Aquasun
UVL super atinic or actinic white??? maybe another bulb?

Have you looked at ordering from Reefgeek? They have the best prices and the best service out there.

I know UVL is coming out with a bulb that is like the ATI Blue Plus. Ask your vendor if they have it yet.

yea i did, but they dont carry the other bulbs i need and i found that marine and reef has them a few $'s cheaper, not to mention after i buy all my bulbs from there i get free shipping. plus they have the other PC bulbs i need. i will call them and see if they have the blue plus in stock yet. but if they dont then what other bulb could i replace that with?

I'd order from Reefgeek or Aquarium specialtys but if you are sold on the site with the poor selection I would do

Super Actinic
75/25
halide
75/25
super actinic

if the 454 is availab;le

454
75/25
halide
aquasun
454

thanks for the input. i will try that combo for now and when i get abit more money i will try the first combo you told me about. i have ordered thru reefgeeks aswell but they just didnt carry what i needed this time. so i was forced to go with another company.

Almighty grim reefer,

I have a standard 29 gallon tank (13.12"L X 31.37"W X 28.25"H). I was wondering if a 4 bulb 24 inch fixture would allow me to keep sps. as you see the fixture is shorter by about 7 inches.

well, my new bulbs just showed up. Any suggestions/answers to my question before I start installing? :)

Hello, I ordered a few 39w ATI plus and a pro color. Should receive them today. Here's hoping they show up in one piece!

So I will have the following bulbs at my disposal. Can you please suggest a bulb order (back to front), using 6 of the following bulbs? They are being used in a Catalina Aquariums T5 retrofit kit (with moonlights) with individual reflectors inside the canopy over my 46g bow front tank.

3x ATI Blue+
1 ATI Pro Color
2 UV 12,000k
1 Current 10,000k
3x CA Actinic Blue

Currently I'm using everything except the ATI bulbs. It's a very white light. Not so sure I like it. If you could explain the advantage to your suggestion vs what I currently have I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks! :)

Try this

Blue Plus
12k
Blue Plus
Pro Color
Blue Plus
12k

That should look real nice. Stay away from the Current bulbs

ok, i called reef geek and they are ordering the rest of the stuff in for me so i am now ordering from them. so i will be running the following now.

Front
ATI Blue Plus
UVL 75/25
Halide 14K pheonix
UVL Aquasun
ATI Blue Plus

i just really hope it isnt too blue.

hey grim i noticed you had some pictures of bulbs and i was wondering if you had pictures of the bulbs im gonna be running now after your advice? just curious as to how much blue there will really be.

my tank (90g) is all setup with 6 rows of t5s and looks great! one of my bulbs died already though (uvl actinic +) do you know if they come with a warranty from reefgeek? or what would cause it to die so quickly? I have an 80mm fan blowing across the end caps

I need T5 Advice

I need T5 Advice

Hi All: I currently have a 72" NovaExtreme Pro HO lighting fixture for my 180 gallon mixed reef. I don't think the bulbs that came with the fixture are ideal, and am looking for suggestions on replacements. My tank has a lot of zoos, 4 anemones, 1 clam, various softies and LPS corals and polyps.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Question. I have a solar flare with this combination.
Front
ATI Blue Plus
GE 6500K
UVL Super Actinic
ATI Aquablue
ATI Blue Plus
UVL Aquasun
ATI Blue Plus
I feel like the colors on corals dont pop like they do in my wifes aquapod. She has 4 pc bulbs on it. 2 are 10k daylight, and 2 are blue. I feel like her greens and purples look a lot better. Any advice would be great.

I tried that config and it looked just a tad too blue so i swapped one of the 12k's for the Current 10k. Today I picked up a UV Aquasun to replace the Current 10k, but when I got home the Aquasun box had a Super Actinic in it. So now I have to drive 30 miles back to that store to exchange it and 30 miles back home.
Anyway, I think that should do it colorwise, right?

And I have one more question about bulb order/placement. My tank is a 46g bow front. Because of the bow in the front, I can only have my lights over the rectangular section of the tank. Once the bow starts, my bulbs are too long to fit. So instead of my row of 6 lights being centered front to back over the tank, they are more towards the back. Does that make sense? So with that in mind, how would you order the bulbs front to back? Something like this?

FRONT
Blue Plus
Pro Color
Blue Plus
10k
Blue Plus
12k

Thanks!!!

Changing from PC to T-5

Changing from PC to T-5

I found a 48" Odyssea T-5 setup for $140 at a local LFS. It's time for a PC bulb change soon, so I thought for a few extra bucks I'd switch to T-5.

Any opinions on the Odyssea?

I been reading and these fixtures are rated in order:

1.) ATI powermodule
2.) Aquatinics
3.) Tek fixtures

My questions is where do the tek retrofits fit in as to performance? I figure since the reflectors are more spaced out and the ballast is not enclosed it wouldn't create much heat. Could we even put fans blowing on the retrofits to make the peformance better?

You sure about the 28" high?

Im guessing thats 18"

I'd do a TX5 Aquactinic fixture if you are serious about SPS. You could mount or hang the fixture 6 or 7 inches above the tank to help spread light to the ends and still have enough light for the SPS.

The UVL 75/25 is slightly off white with an almost purple hue. The Aquasun is kinda pepto pink. You would be surprised how much blue those lamp will swallow up. It should look good. You could always place the 75/25 in front if you want to have a slightly less blue look once you install the lamps.
