I have the following combination in my T-5 fixture:
Blue Plus, Super Actinic, UVL Aquasun, Blue Plus, UVL 75/25,
Blue Plus. I have a shared sump between 2 90 gallon tanks. One is fish only with a 10k 250w pendant and the other is a reef that has the 6 bulb T-5 fixture above it. Bulbs are new and the reef has a huge green algae problem yet the other tank has no issues, any suggestions? (BTW water parameters are within normal)

The T5's are giving you a lot more PAR so the algae is growing in that area.

It doesn't have as much PAR but it does bump the reds up some which I like. The PAR difference isn't that big. It isn't a replacement for a Aquablue, just a way of bringing in pink and purple colors when you are using a lot of blue light.

I wanted to try out a fiji purple. Would I need an actinic white if Im getting the fiji?

I asked last year about a bulb combo and the project has been going slow so can you let me know if this is a good combo for viewing on 2 sides.

Fixture is the 60" 80wx10 powermodule

Blue +
Figi Purple
Blue+
Mid Day or Aquablue 12k
Blue+
Blue+
Mid day or aquablue 12k
Blue+
Figi Purple
Blue+

Not sure whether to go midday or aquablue.

It will be a mixed reef if that matters.

Thanks,
Jason

Tek 8-Bulb Fixture = Phoenix Color?

Tek 8-Bulb Fixture = Phoenix Color?

Grimm,

I've got a 4' Tek Light (8-bulb) over a 5' tank (5' x 2' x 2'). I would really like to get as close to the Phoenix 14K SE color rendition as I can. What bulb combination would you recommend?

These are the bulbs I currently have in the fixture and it's too white:

AtI Blue Plus
UVL 75/25
ATI Blue Plus
GE 6500K Daylight
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Aquablue
UVL 75/25
Blue Plus

Thanks!

Hey Everyone,

I just received my new Uvl lamps today for my next 4-bulb combo.

- Uvl 454nm
- Uvl Super Actinic
- Uvl IndigoSun
- Uvl Aquablue 75/25

I called uvl & this is the combo they recommended. Its sweet!!
The indigosun looked alittle pink next to a Aquascience Duo, but in this combo looks alot like an aquablue on the whiter side. The 454 looks like a blue+ with maybe a little more 420nm.

Correction - here's the bulb combo I currently have. Looking for something much more blue - 14K-20K range... let me know how you'd change this up (Tek 8-bulb fixture)...

ATI Blue Plus
UVL 75/25
ATI Aquablue
UVL Actinic White
ATI Blue Plus
GE 6500K Daylight
UVL 75/25
ATI Blue Plus

IC 430 and IC 660

I heard a 430 can only light 2 bulbs no matter what length. So I got a 660. How many bulbs can a 660 light? anyone know?

Can anyone describe the differences (if any) between these three setups. Thanks!

ATI Blue Plus
KZ Fiji Purple or UVL Actinic White
ATI Aquablue
GE 6500K
ATI Blue Plus

ATI Blue plus
UVL Super Actinic
UVL Actinic White
ATI Blue plus
Giesemann Aquablue +

UVL 75/25

Probably not, it depends. The fiji does about the same thing but the red is more subtle.

Probabky fine, at least to start. Going with 4 Fiji lamps instead of the two Aquablues might be cool but I think I would do it like you have it listed to start. Grab the GE 6500K Daylight as a spare, that will let you play with the mix.

Swap the position of the Aquablue and GE and see if that does it. If not you can either get an Aquablue to replace the blue plus or an Aquablue to replace the GE. Hard to say which will get you what you want.

Thanks!

They need a little time but I would add a row of blue pluses and pull a row of aquasuns, maybe do the same with one row of 75/25's too.

Howdy!

Newbie here just having purchased a used 36" TEK fixture that came with 8 bulbs rumored to of been purchased less than a month ago. (who buys new bulbs and then sells the fixture ?)

Anyways, I'm hanging it over a 40 breeder, (36" L 18" W 17" T) which I expect will accomodate anything I want to put in there from softies, SPS, LPS, and a clam or two. The bulbs with the fixture are currently in this order from back to front.....

UVL Super Actinic
Current 10K
UVL Super Actinic
BlueLife Actinic Blue
UVL 75/25
UVL 75/25

Two x-tra bulbs are another Current 10K and a BlueLife 15K

Front and back are together with the middle four grouped on a second switch. Given that I'm a newbie without any particular preference just yet, and given the bulbs I have at hand, what's a good starting point that will give me something to work with as I refine my tastes. (or if one combo works better than others for different types of corals)

I want to run a day/night schedule of some sort, maybe you have a time schedule suggestion for that. And if you think some different bulb would make for a nice future purchases for this tank please throw that out there too.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Top will be 12~14K halide

Next slightly bluer with a hint of purple in the look

bottom will be about the same as the top.

Order 3 ATI blue plus lamps

Front
UVL Super Actinic
ATI Blue Plus
UVL 75/25
ATI Blue Plus
Current 10K
ATI Blue Plus

You can try swapping the position of the 75/25 with the super actinic, the combo of a Blue Plus and 75/25 makes a sweet dusk/dawn look.

I will be running a 36"X24" tank. It will be 36" from front to back and 24" side to side. Should I run 24" or 36" bulbs?

It depends on the main viewing side. if it is the 24" side then 24" lamps are better, that way you have full illumination end to end.
