Grim, what is your feeling on the Outer Orbit HQI/T5HO 72 inch 150W HQI 8x39W (1074),
compared to the nova extreme pro or Aquactinics Constellation, and would the outer orbit use much more electricity?

If the anemones are already hiding you should be fine with the Nova.

Try this instead for lamps

Front
ATI Blue Plus
UVL 75/25
ATI Aquablue
ATI Blue Plus
UVL 75/25
ATI Blue Plus

It sounds like the anemones are your show pieces. The pink and actinic from those two 75/25's should make them look like you are watching a blacklight poster.

My typing order go screwed up, how about this:

i just purchased a 180g tank 72x24x24 and i am going to use ati fixutres. i already have a 36" 6 bulb, but i dont think a 6bulb would be ideal correct? i was thinking it would save me money to just order another 6 bulb, but i dont want my tank to suffer in the future as it will be sps and clam dominated. should i just bite the bullet and order 2 10 bulb fixtures? or 8 bulb fixtures?

hey grim, quick question. I have a T5HO that is one solid piece with bent reflectors for each bulb. 6x54w fixture running off an Icecap 660 and 430.

I'm going to upgrade to individual reflectors but will have 4 bulb fixture for a while before adding 2 more; will the 4 bulb be enough to keep growing my SPS and clams? Itll be running off of the IC660 and will have IceCap individual reflectors with Geisman and ATI bulbs

This is over a 75g

Thank you!

You might see a decrease in growth in some areas but the 4 lamps will keep you going.

Is it possible I might see the same growth pattern continue or even a little more since i'm adding better reflectors?

Thanks for your response

I have a quick question to see what I might be able to keep with the light fixtures I have on my tank.

I have 2 36" 4bulb fixtures over a 80"x24"x24" tank.

I am only wanting to keep rics, softies, and some LPS corals.

I had a toadstool frag with 2 heads doing great in the tank along with a Long Tenticle Anemone until I had to remove them to do hypo on the DT.

New tank project - new questions

New tank project - new questions

I just closed a deal on a 340G tank. It's a doozie, 96" x 36" x 24".
My new tank room has some limitations on clearance above the tank (about 24"). For this reason, I will be attaching fixtures directly to the ceiling above the tank. Low profile is much preferred for the obvious reason.

My previous experience has been with a combination of MH and T5 - so this is our first venture into a T5 only system.
The tank will have heavy SPS, Acros, Montis, Millies in the upper half of aquascaping, while there will be many acans, zoas, LPS and softies lower in the tank.

My first thought was to mount 36" T5 fixtures perpendicular to the front of the tank. Then I looked at several 8 bulb 48" systems that seem to make more sense. One system says it is 17" wide and 2.5" deep. Four of those (about 1700W) should give outstanding coverage in this tank...or is that TOO much light?
Thanks again for all the wisdom offered here.

On that big of a tank with heavy SPS I would look into (4) 6x54W ATI Sunpowers. That will give you 12 bulbs on each side and you would be able to keep whatever you want in that tank.

At 36" front to back you will want more than 8 bulbs. I would look at 10 at a minimum but think you will really the coverage having 12 of them.

After thinking about it awhile, I've pretty much trashed the 36" idea and agree that (4) 48" configurations, probably 6x54W sounds good. I'll research the ATI Sunpowers. Thanks!

Hey Grim,

I'm lookin to setup a 20L mix of sps, lps, softies, and a RBTA. Looking to get a new bulb setup with my sundial. A long time ago this was suggested for a similar setup, just wanted to make sure this is still the route to go.

ATI Blue Plus
UVL 75/25
GE 6500K Daylight
ATI Blue Plus

Also, helping setup a 75g with new lighting to reach similar results as my 20L, what best bang for buck fixture would you recommend? I've been eyeing the tek.

I would change the GE out for an ATI Aquablue. Unless you like the color you have now then don't change it. That is a good combo.

For the 75, the best bang for your buck is the ATI Sunpower. The 6x54W would work perfect over that tank.

ATI Blue Plus
UVL 75/25
ATI Blue Plus
UVL Actinic White
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Blue Plus or Aquablue

After reading Anthony Calfo's latest T5 article, the Tek fixture is not worth it. With no active cooling it really kills the bulbs and ballasts. Sure you can add your own external fan but the active cooling found in the ATI's is the way to go.

Hello:
I would like to know if there is a link that shows the PAR values of the T5s available in the market today.

I want to get an ATI fixture for my 75gal with zoas. I think 4 bulbs would be enought, right? I know I´ll get probably 2 ATI blue + and maybe a UVL 75/25 with ATI true actinic (or ATI Procolor).

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Grandis.

There is the link foe that article.

Regarding your tank I would go with the Aquactinics TX5 instead. One extra bulb for better coloration.

ATI Blue Plus
UVL 75/25
ATI Aquablue or Blue Plus or UVL Super Actinic
UVL Actinic White
ATI Blue Plus

Grim,

Have you tried any of the internal reflecting UVL bulbs? And did you see ICECAP is making bulbs now?

Yes Grim tested the new internally reflected UVL bulbs. The PAR numbers are back quite a few pages. They did OK but a bulb with a good reflector absolutely demolished it still. The internally reflected bulbs are good for those with sub standard fixtures and reflectors.
