The Tank that REEF CENTRAL Built - 450 gal display, 800 gal volume

You're far more dedicated then I am. When I moved to Al. many years ago there was no NFL package and the last thing that would happen was buffalo getting on TV. So I never got to watch a game and got use to it. Now if they have a bad preseason I do get excited (for them a bad preseason is a good sign) but it only takes a few weeks to remind me it is buffalo I'm watching.

The one thing I can say is the chicken wings up there are FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!

I got to say I do understand every word you are saying.

The Bills lost 4 SBs consecutively 1991-94. The Vikings lost 4 in the 70s. 1970, 74, 75, and 77. Both teams were great but heartbreakers and the Vikings played in their old outdoor stadium back then.

I could go on about this topic for days, but have you guys seen this thread? This is simply awesome!
I am thinking of working this into the plan. Keeping the back glass clean concerns me though.....

It looks good on the surface but I have a concern that it may grow on you. If you look at it the front is nice a clear and then BOOM it appears to be way back and distance. My eye saw the missing middle ground which makes me wonder if a little bit less fog would make it better. I do like the idea and hopefully the day will come when I have to room to play with this idea.

If you really had space, I wonder how doing two boxes would come out.
then you could create the "middle" and the distant look. Possibly light each box with different intensity.

That is what I was thinking. I have a picture of a reef on Bonaire that I will post as soon as figure out how. In this pic you get see the background fade away. Recreate what is in this pic and you'll have perfection.

these two images are quite incredible.
I certainly want to see the one you are talking about M2M

OK, I couldn't get the pic I wanted but here is one where you can see how it slowly fades away.

and then here is another where you can the background fade away

Looks like I need to learn how to post a pic so I also added the URL to the pic.

and if your interested here is a selection of pictures from dive trips that. There are a few in there where you can see how the background fades away.

Hope it helps

I like these. The bottom one looks so real. If you look at it in the foreground on the left you see rock come out and then it turns back in to the left and out of site. Then there is nothing till the background. I think that is what makes it so real is you don't see an "end" to the tank part of the picture.

Links didnt come through, but encorporating this into the build is becomming more and more attractive to me as I think about it.

I really like the one that I pulled. I recently moved my tank and am rebuilding it and I'll tell you it is looking very nice to me also. I think another thing that makes that tank work is the smaller rocks in the middle. They validate the ridge of rocks in the front and are halfway to the "fog" in the back. Whatever it is it works very nicely.

This is your thread but thanks for the idea

I have to say I love the idea of a shadowbox background. Looks amazing! I may have to incorporate this on my tank now too.

You can see how the reef fades away behind you

Yeah, the Lowe half of the image would be inside the tank, and the top half would be behind the tank in the shadow box.

I am so worried about how I am going to keep the glass clean on this tank.... We will only have access from the front.
Maybe I will have to figure out a way to get some back door access.

LOL

I have a tank that I maintain that is in a recessed wall, so I have no access to the back and side for a mag scraper of any kind, I just let it grow wild. it's pretty much completely covered with coralline. I guess if you don't like that look though...
