The Tank that REEF CENTRAL Built - 450 gal display, 800 gal volume

Yeah, I have this feeling like I would spend 3 weeks on it, and it would never look the way it does in my head. The concept is really cool though.

Good to see you today! Hope that everything flourishes in the rimless!

i had wanted to do the same thing, but the amount of tweaking that i figured would need to be spent on it could be endless, but i feared it would never come out as well as i would have wanted.

I love the pieces i got today, they all look great under the blues tonight, thanks!

I meant to have you play with my SLR while you were here! Darn it!
You gotta come back. I will trade you some more frags for a lesson!

I showed the shadow box to my wife and she wants it on the new tank. She's very artistic so she's going to start working on the cork board for the rock structures

I just realized that when watching your video.

I'd be happy to come back but i don't think I can be considered good enough to give lessons (i've seen Dana's great photos!), especially not for frags!

What camera do you have? I could come back with my camera (as i'm used to using it) and take some shots? and see what i can do with yours while i'm at it?

That works for me. We have a canon 7d and the f2.8 100mm Macro too. You will have fun playing with it I'm sure.

Dana, was sitting here and she was like, "Owen commented on my video!"

I did!

We'll arrange it at somepoint. I will bring my remote trigger too, it will work with your camera, it avoids any shaking of the camera after you've pressed the trigger. We should be able to get some really great shots like that.

Ok All.

Very close to picking which controller to go with.
Apex or Profilux

Needs:
- ATO
- auto water change
- auto salinity control
- auto pH control
- control Vortech's
- one brain running all three "fish zones" (main display, biocube closet, garage fish room)
- all equipment (approx 8-10 tanks ) plugged into controller
- monitor pH, temp, of all systems
- control Radion pro
- auto feeding

I'm still torn!

Im an apex user and have had no issues with it. I thought about switching to GHL about a year ago because they have a cool touch screen but when I realized how much it was going to cost to make the switch, I decided to stick with apex. It does everything I need it to do and Im sure that there are still things it can do that I dont know about.

You can buy longer lengths of the USB cable that is used to tie the power bars and modules into the main unit. I would get with the electrician and see if they can run wires to the areas where you will need control.

I'm more than happy with my Apex. Programming takes some getting used to, but google is your friend.

It does everything I need it to for my modest set up.

Ok. I think Apex is taking the lead here.

I am going to call both companies and "interview" them tomorrow. Provided I get all the answers I am looking for Apex will be getting the nod.

Can you hook up the I/O box to one of the power bars when you need the I/O in a location that is away from the brain?

No the I/O boxes need to be attached to the head unit or one of the expansion modules like pm1, pm2 or pm3. You will need those in each area depending on what you want to monitor.

On the Profi you can. All breakouts and external boxes are connected via ethernet cable.

Hmmmm, I am going to map out exactly how I want the controller to layout and what I want and what I need it to do.

Then I will call each company, and discover what it will take for each to accomplish my requirements and the total cost for each.

Bill, if you dont consolidate the bio-cubes how will you run them? will they each be a separate unit or will you tie them all together with one sump? If you are going to run each one separate and want to be able to monitor ph and temp along with control lighting and pumps, you will need a lot of modules and powerbars.

I hadn't seen this yet, when I texted you this afternoon that Dana and I decided to consolidate the biocubes into larger frag tanks.
So your thoughts and timing are right on the money.

Here is what I see us keeping in the new house.

- the main 540 display
- the bedroom display 150-180 (tbd)
- an 80-100 gallon LPS frag tank
- an 80-100 gallon SPS frag tank
- a 34-60 gallon zoa tank
- a 29 gallon Anthelia, Xenia, GSP tank.

I am working on the plans for a "live rock" factory, where we will clean, rinse, and cure Liverock.

I certainly recognize the benefit to having the zoa and softie tank separate so that we can keep them as higher nutrient systems, do you think it would be beneficial to have the SPS and LPS separate from each other? Or would they both thrive under the same conditions?
