The Time Is Finally Here...

I dont know about the vols..but the texas vs texas tech game was a great game
Yep, and my alma mater won! Don't know if they can hold off Okie State and OU and finish undefeated, though. My other alma mater, the Huskers, looked horrible against the Sooners.

Dave

I honestly don't think there will be an unbeated team from a major conference left at the end of the year, coming from an Alabama graduate... just bc techs schedule is so hard and so is bamas. They also have to play the conference championship game. The only team that has a really good shot is Penn state due to ease of schedule, but ironically it could leave them out of the national championship hunt.

Now THAT was a great football weekend. My "Perfect Storm" trifecta solution for sports happiness fired on all cylinders on Saturday. :)

That is all that they have talked about on Sports talk today... He was a good coach... Hopefully things will be done tastefully... He's meant too much to the program to completely torch things... A change was needed though... Hopefully they'll make a good hire...

Wonder if they'll try to get Jon Gruden from Tampa Bay as the new coach? I understand he has ties to UT.

I doubt it will be Jon Gruden... He was a Graduate assistant, and his wife is from East TN... They have property in Sevier County...

Still won't be him... He's doing well with the Bucs... Why would he leave there to come here...

I think its $5.6 Million Dave... I didn't hear the press conference... I'm in class right now... :(

Read this on Knoxnews.com

"Fulmer is scheduled to receive a buyout of between $5.47 million and $6 million, depending on the interpretation of his buyout clause. That sum is payable over 48 months."

The worst part about the whole thing is Coach Fulmer is a good decent man who has done things the right way. Two major NCAA investigations and nobody found anything. He's given 30 years of his life to UT.
Yes he has a large buyout (I think 5.6 is correct) that was part of his renegotiated contract last year.
That's a drop in the bucket to UT's athletic department.
The Neyland stadium renovations went $100 milion over budget and they didn't bat an eye. It's one of only a handfull of athletic programs in the country that are self sufficient. The yearly budget is around $90 million if I remember correctly.

Gruden is a pipe dream although I wouldn't fault Hamilton for at least giving him a call. His first coaching job was at UT and his wife was a UT cheerleader.

You guys might be right. I thought Saban was a pipe dream for Bama and look what happened......but he wasn't doing to well in the pros. Looks like Gruden has got things going again at TB.

Nice new avatar Randy.

It's a sad day:(

I hope the team can rally and beat Vandy and Kentucky for Fulmer. That's the least he deserves.

Ya never know. The urge to come home might out-weigh the desire to make money.
And it's not like he wouldn't be making LOTS of money here at UT. Yes, probably less than at Tampa Bay, but once it's over a few million, who's counting?

The thing about college compared to the NFL though is you have to recruit (and recruit very well out of state if you are at UT). Coaches who have been in the pros have a big advantage because they can say"I know what it takes to get you to the NFL" but they have to work all year. NFL coaches have to work a lot but they don't have to recruit so they get more time off.
