Well guy calls up my work and ask if we know anybody interested in buying some fish. I tell him due to store policy we cannot buy fish from non-MAC distributors but he is more than welcome to come up and I will try to work something out with him. Well a couple of hours go by and a college kid shows up with three bags of fush and ask if we wanted to buy them. I tell him we cannot and blah blah blah, he then unwraps the bags and low and behold a Rhomboidalis and Jordani wrasse both 4" easly and super healthy as well as a mated pair of dracula gobies. All 4 fish hes had for 1.5 years and hand feeding. I ask him how much and he says $150 cash right now thier yours, with no hesitation I pulled a 100 bill and a 50 bill from my register and handed him it. he hands me the fish and says thanks and walks out. I immediatly took picture of them acclimating and then 2 days later pay day came and I replaced the $150 in the register and broght them to a happy home!! Hope you enjoy the pictures.

LOL, you'd be surpised...people are clever. Weird situations arise....

I love stories like that. I spend my life getting deals on fish. Like the Rhinopias I got for $200 when they were much more than they are now. Congrats. By the way you have a pair of Dracula gobies not a mated pair. I hate when people throw around mated pair in the marine world. Just one of those things that irritates me. Unless you have viable brod stock then don't call them a mated pair. You see it with Crosshatches all the time. Do you know of anyone who's bred them? A male and female of most species will get along but that doesn't mean they'll breed and more importantly produce young. But again congrats, congrats. Enjoy them. Tim

Also did you tell your boss you borrowed the money? Seems like you didn't. Hope you did when you took the money. I worked at a LFS and it was always easy to skim cash if you wanted too, but that doesn't make it right. Happy to see you put the money back, just should asked first. Just my 2 cents. Tim

I understand about the mated pair issues but supposidly they mated and had eggs but none hatched, though I did not see this personally. Hes in the marines and was moving to texas and could not move the tank and livestock hence the deal. Guy seemed legit don't think he stole them unless he works for an airport or shipping agent. And fortunatly I am one of the managers so no need to ask just replace before deposit time.

Nice score. Sounds like you got yourself a good deal on someone leaving the hobby. It seems like the owner is not at the store everyday and does not oversee the daily receipts or maybe you just have that kind of relationship. However, if I was the owner, and noticed one of my managers taking money from the register for personal purchases without letting me know, especially ones not benefiting my business, you'd be looking for another job. Good Luck with the new fish.

Awesome fish!!! I think this was a thread on a nice find...not the morals of whats right and wrong and what one would do in a situation....just my two cents worth.

Ever think maybe the owner knew about this and was ok with it since the store itself couldn't buy it? Most LFS owners are aquarists themselves, probably understanding.

Sweet. He gets his drugs and you get your fish.

Win Win situation! :D

I see no problem with what you did. You didn't even take the fish home till you replaced the money, and considering that the fish were at the store until payday I'd imagine boss heard about it somewhere along the line (and you didn't get fired :) )

One of my lfs had a guy steal 2 frogfish, just walked up to the tanks rolled up his sleeves and stuffed them in bags in his pockets, They caught it on camera but after they were already gone

Thats why I commented maybe " you have that kind of relationship" with the owner. If thats the case then cool. Its important to read the entire post. If it was done without the owners consent and knowledge then by statute it technically constitutes a theft.
