The Ultimate Eight Foot Softie Reef

Amazing chronicle of an 8 foot tank. Read this from start to "present".

I am a complete reef tyro, so my comments/compliments might not mean anything.

Dinner has gone by the wayside, ...cold roast chicken we now have. Fascinating thread. Very well described. Very well photographed. Your posts will always give me something to aim for in the reef world.

Thank you for the very thoughtful and kind words. I'm not the best at keeping things current, and the Softie Forum gets little attention. So I'm always pleased that people still find my tank interesting.

As my reef approaches the 3 year mark, I find myself pretty satisfied with how it's turned out. I know many fellow reefers who have had trouble and crashes with their systems in that time. While I've had my share of losses here and there, I'm very, very grateful that my system has remained healthy and established.

I've had this specimen for 2 weeks. He appears to be happy and healthy in his new home. :beachbum: Thoughts and comments welcomed:

I love this thread- Softies/LPS are my absolute favorite, and a nice long tank allowing for big fish is my dream tank.

Your nurtured and well grown colonies are inspiring for me to keep my darn hands out of the tank and just let things grow!

I had NO IDEA tub nems could get so big!!!

Mine comes out fully at night and is almost entirely retracted in the day- what do you think?

thanks for sharing as always!!

Thanks folks. :)

Tubes can do well in even indirect light. It may not like being basted. However, I suspect it's your flow. Unlike other anemones, tubes like very subtle flow. When they are open, the less flow the more they will expand. Mine is literally in the lowest flow section of the tank. Hope this helps!

Some very rough pictures after I hung the new lights tonight. The pictures are pretty terrible- way brighter in person..:) It took me over 3 hours to unwrap everything and setup the fixture properly. I still have to adjust the height on the single pendant and mount the LED cord properly. These Elos lights are incredible in person:
