The Ultimate Eight Foot Softie Reef

I am so very sorry to hear this. The important thing is that you and your family are ok. And your equipment is ok, so you have most of what you need to restart if you want to.

You grew such an incredible ecosystem- I had never seen such big and healthy softies- you gave them a great home and great lives.

Condolences and encouragement headed your way.

OMG! how horrible!!!!! sorry to hear about your tank, but i'm glad you're ok

where do you live? you didn't specify

I am sorry about your loss...Must be heart-broken...At least you are your family are OK. I bet your rebuild will be better.....
We just got a huge black-out last night....Every thing is ok....I guess yours was even worst...

Good luck with the new rebuild....

Thanks Joey. I'm keeping positive and trying not to call it a complete rebuild. Ammonia shot through the roof, and it took me a few days to get it down to zero. However, the tank didn't seem to go through a full cycle like I expected.

Since I did have some of my nicer LPS survive, let's just call it moving in a new direction. :)

Sorry to hear ICF. Good luck on the rebuild.

Question: Any issue with Jumpers on such a shallow tank? I have a similar tank and afraid to add any more fish because I had a Bengi Cardinal jump out (crazy huh?)?

Sorry to hear about your loss. It's kind of ironic that you have such a perfect reef ecosystem built and a hurricane is what destroyed it...in Connecticut.:headwally: Hang in there man.

I am sorry for your lost, such a nice tank. at least your family is fine. now is time to start all over again that is some times good or bad. It all depends on your attitude. good luck

i love this tank it was like a dream tank for many of us on RC so i will be following along as it takes on its "new direction"
:)

glad everyones health is good tho buddy

Very sorry about the loss. You worked hard. No consolation, but many of us have whole tank losses for various reasons. Don't get too discouraged.

I suggest buying a small camping generator like Honda and Yamaha make as a power back up for power outages lasting more than an hour. You can actually buy cheap 1200 watt ones made in China for under a $150. Cheap insurance policy even if you never take it out of the box it came in. One could have easily run your pumping system and reduced lighting. I've learned the hard way living in Florida.

Hey folks! Thank you all for your continued support. I know it's been quite some time since I've updated, but I had put the tank out of mind for quite some time.

The economy has hit us hard this year, and I find my personal interest in reef keeping too closely connected to disposable income. ;) I've also had many other home projects and landscaping projects that have monopolized my time.

I've been letting the tank do it's thing and recover on it's own. I'm back to start updating and hopefully in that process I can outline some of the things I've learned.

Its been a while... How are things going on its "own"... Please show us, good or bad. :)
