The Volcano Tank - Konolua

I know someone asked already, but i dont think it got answered. What does it cost you on average to replace your CUC? since the crabs eat so many?

Moved some rocks slightly, courtesy of the stupid Diamond Head Goby! He decided to fill in the cave on the left side. I knew he would have his way with the deep sand bed, but I figured he wouldn't fill in a hole! Normally they excavate rather than fill in! Oh well, I moved the left rock slightly. It is about 2 inches taller in the back and the same height in the front, effectively making it slanted forward. I moved it enough back to cover the chiller intake, rather than the one rock I had covering it before. Looks much cleaner now. As such, it has provided a bit more "œdepth" backwards, which is kind of cool.

Thanks for looking!

I get local hermits and snails....it would be ridiculous costs to rely on paying weekly for them. I will put 30 hermits in the tank and within a week they are gone.

Awesome pictures! It looks great as usual!

Sorry to hear about the couple of losses while you were away...it's unfortunate but it happens.

I think I speak for everyone when I say...MORE CRAB PICTURES!!!

Most of us in the hobby never get to see the land crabs you have, and we don't have the ability to keep them because we lack your unique setup. I'm sure others too would love to see more crab pics when you get some new ones!

Makes sense, and I will do just that! This weekend, I will get some shots for everyone! Crabmania to come!

Love the 3rd pic above with the crab hanging completely sideways on the rock face!

Amazing how much grip they get with those pointy little feet even out of water!

Do you have zoas growing on the sand or is it just the camera angle? BTW the goby tends to excavate and then cover up holes at random. Nice tank!

*** cant believe i havent see this thread b4, talk about originallity!
omfg is all i can say

how did u come up with this idea? (sure its been ask, didnt go through everypage)

still the best tank I have ever seen......have you thought of a sister island remote tank tied in with acrylic piping so that fish can change tanks....that IMO would be over the top.

No, but I am seriously considering tying in a sister tank that will house peaceful inhabitants and focus on algaes. I would love to have a show-tank size and have long coastal algaes with a couple angel fish, or maybe seahorses or something.

The zoas are spreading very far onto sand, but there is a very thin "plate-like" rock that they are on that is just under the sand there. So, the camera angle is a bit odd on that one shot (I wanted to capture the surface) but i n reality, the zoas are moving through sand....just anchored on a rock underneath.

I love the tank! I had to post it over on koiphen.com also (my other aquatic hobby) :D:

Thanks for sharing!

Excellent tank! I love it! what a novel idea - TOTM

Very very cool. It's nice to see something different. I'm sure this has been said before, but it reminds me of my 6th grade science fair project, minus the baking soda and vinegar.

Nice work Kyle...very inspirational and visionary...perhaps a trend in the making...I'll be tagging along, my next tank will be a shallow for sure.
