The Weather SUCKS - part III

MayoBoy

Movin' on Up
Looks like the generator was a pretty good buy after all. Power's out: tank is running, router and DSL modem are running, TV and Dish are running, three hundred bucks of food from Sams and Schunucks are in the 'fridge and deepfreeze staying cold.

The lighting is pretty darned impressive...

Steve,

You just can't win! Maybe it's time to move closer to where I live. We had power back last Thursday at noon and didn't lose it today at all.

Thanks again for the chaeto and the galaxea frag.

:D

We just finished running extension cords to the neighbors on either side and the power came back on.

The only casulty was my shirt (I dripped some olive oil/parmesan cheese mixture on it...)

Thanks Bob - rub it in why don't ya?

I lost it here in Lake st. louis too. had to go find some battery air pumps...its finally up and going now though. Definately investing in a generator soon.

I just got my power back from last night, out from 5pm to 6:30am. The inverter saved the tank. Generator shopping next month for future use.:D

Now what types of things could you use off 5000 watts? Few things for the tank, fridge, a fan, light for one room, stove? Just wondering what size minimum i should get. Anyone know the cheapest place for good generators?

Look at the amps something draws and multiply by 110 (voltage) - that equals watts.

Deep freeze - 5 amps
5x110=550 watts.

Just figure out what you want to run and go from there.

I ran my fridge, return pump, halides, and my 10 gal tank off my 3000 watt generator. Not sure how much more I could do as I haven't added everything up.

To give you an idea:

I too have not added everything up, but I didn't have any problems running the following on my 3,550 watt...

Large Standup Deepfreeze
Fridge (side by side kind)
Big Tank (1x Mag 18 return pump, 2x 96watt PC's, 3x250watt MH)
FOWLR (1X Mag 9 return pump, and 2x 40watt NO (just for some light)
TV (dish, sound, and tv)
2 smallish Fans to try and keep the humans from die'n :)

If I ever take the time to sit down and add it all up, I figure that I'm probly pretty close to pushing it...
