Fellow Reef Aquarists-

The moment we’ve all been waiting patiently for is finally approaching. The Wireless Wave Driver is available for pre-purchase now only through Aquarium Specialty (VorTech Wireless Wave Driver Promotion). Scott has been kind enough to help EcoTech with the logistics involved in sending out the new Wireless Wave Drivers and processing the returned MP40 model drivers.

Here’s what you’re in for:
Some might say we’re behind schedule however we believe that what we are presenting now will convince most that sometimes you get more than what you’ve bargained for. For $100 you will purchase our Wireless Wave Driver. Following the receipt of your new driver, simply swap it out with your old driver and return the old driver to Aquarium Specialty for a $50 rebate. Wireless Wave Drivers are expected to begin shipping on September 1st in limited numbers.

This offer will be valid while supplies last. Once we’ve caught up with our customers, the Wireless Wave Driver will eventually be available as a standalone product for ~$100 without any exchange.

What does the Wireless Wave Driver do?
Well, in short it is a multicontroller. That’s right, the driver that you thought you required in order to use our future multicontroller actually IS our multicontroller, but it’s also our single controller. How’s that you ask? Well, using our new Triton Protocol for wireless communication your Wireless Wave Drivers will communicate with one another to coordinate wave movements throughout your tank. For example, if you own four pumps you will purchase four Wireless Wave Drivers and your pumps will then be capable of multiple different wireless wave control algorithms and infinite flow possibilities. Alternatively, if you just have one pump then you can purchase only one Wireless Wave Driver and still get all of the flow control options, just minus the added benefit of having other pumps. What’s even better is that there is effectively no limit to the number of different wireless pumps that you can incorporate onto any one aquarium, or even multiple aquariums.

Here’s how we do it:
When you turn your first Wireless Wave Driver on, you have the option to set this pump as a “master pump.” Once it’s set as master, any other pumps that you turn on will automatically become slaves to that master pump. A master pump can broadcast a wireless signal telling slave pumps to coordinate their flow with the master. A master can control other pumps in the following modes:

• Single Speed Mode
• Random Mode 1: Lagoon Mode
• Random Mode 2: Reef-Crest Mode
• Pulse Mode- for wave creation

Here’s where it gets even better:
The slave pumps can be set to either “Sync” with the master pump or “Anti-Sync” with the master pump. In sync mode the slave will do exactly as the master; in anti-sync mode they’ll do the inverse! Meaning when the master pump is at its maximum speed, the slave will be at its minimum, etc. Multiple master pumps can be set up on different wireless frequencies for infinite wave control possibilities.

To enter feed mode, press the button on any one of your Wireless Wave Drivers and all of your pumps will slow down to just a few revolutions for 10 minutes.

Each Wireless Wave Driver comes with its own 1-year warranty from the time of installation.

I hope everyone appreciates what we have in store for the future. While I know that this post is undoubtedly going to result in a very long thread with numerous questions, I ask that everyone be patient. We will answer the most pertinent questions involving the upgrade process itself as quickly as possible however we will not be able to answer as effectively specific details about the functionality of the driver. The reason is we are busy with this project, other projects, and of course MACNA. I ask that everyone be considerate of this when asking questions.

We will have pictures of the driver to follow. In the mean time, let the discussion begin!

wow so the wireless driver and the single controller are not seperate but the same thing?

so exited i will cal AS today with my order :)

My question is how is the driver replaced? The box is riveted shut, and wired directly to the VorTech pump.

And I'm really glad this is coming out at last.

Marc-

It's not riveted, just screwed. You simply unscrew the four black screws and the motor is connected to the driver with a plug. Gently remove the plug to remove the motor from the driver. On the Wireless Wave Driver box, there are no screws, so installation is "a snap."

In on one! This space for rent.

If I don't own these pumps yet can I pre-order the drivers then order the pumps and get the exchange or are there restrictions?

Whoops, you're right. I might have remembered that from my beta model, or maybe I'm just making it up. All of my drivers are screwed shut as you pointed out.

I hope you'll get your production crew on some caffeine because I know a lot of people have been waiting for this news. The orders are going to pour in now. :) I posted a link for our DFWMAS members to this thread.

so I read the aquarium specialty page and it said you had thirty days to return the old driver to receive the credit from the date of purchase. Does that mean if I ordered the drivers now you would have to receive my old drivers by sept 15th? What happens if the new ones aren't shipped right on the first?

Time to buy a third vortech now. Since they won't be running at full speed and I still want the minimum flow time periods to be churning the tank(~75x).
I wonder what two on the back and one on a side would allow me to do in a 90g :)

30 days from the shipment of the Wireless Wave Driver. When you actually order the driver won't have any effect on anything.

thanks Tim. So that means as long as I can acquire two pumps in time I can get the credit for exchanging the drivers?

Wow. Great news. I'm wondering if there are any interference issues with other wireless devices. Like wireless LANs.
And I take you don't have to be the original owner? If you picked one up used you still can just send the old driver in for the swap?

The drivers have to be functional and we will evaluate this upon their return. Assuming you're not sending us a broken part, then yes it won't matter who originally bought the pump. It's more of an exchange offer than it is anything else.

As for interference. There's no reason for our customers to worry about this as that's what the FCC and their standards are here for.

what's the wireless range? just curious- i realize that there's no point in going farther than the other end of the tank. what spectrum does it use? what other common electronics *might* it interfere with in our homes?

do they remember the master/slave settings when they lose power?

any sort of mode scheduling timer so it can switch from crest to lagoon at night, or throw in a pulse mode for a few minutes every once in a while? if not, any chance of opening up the 'Triton Protocol' to 3rd parties (like neptune) so they can add this functionality to their controllers?
