I have no vortechs yet, but I'm wondering if I should just buy them now, and get the upgrade, or if they will come out with the upgrade already sometime down the line? I'd rather not go through the whole process if they already come prepackaged with the new driver.

Why not just wait until they are shipping Vortechs with the wireless controller. I would guess this will happen about a month from now.

Bought my two. Shipping is stupid ridiculous, hell for the overnight shipping being over 100 dollars you should just by it a plane ticket and it could be anywhere within the day for cheaper! It costs me less to get livestock shipped than this is costing. I hope I got in on time to get the ones that ship on the 3rd.

KEstep check this out

Vortech upgrade shipping charges...
Orders have gone through with higher than normal shipping charges to cover the return process, paperwork, merchant fees associated with the refunds and many hours that we will spend working on this upgrade program. This is going to be time consuming. We are covering our cost on this program and we saw this as a unique opportunity to promote Ecotech Marine and Aquarium Specialty. Aquarium Specialty is very pleased to be the Ecotech Marine partner in this upgrade opportunity and our hope is that our service and the products performance will exceed your expectations.

NOTE: A few of the purchases (those who purchased 3 or more upgrades at one time) will have a higher than $50.00 refund (per driver). Once the new drivers arrive we will ship them to each of you (Sept 1st). Once we receive back the old drivers your account will be credited. For further detail view the driver upgrade on our site and read the detail that we posted 2 days ago.

If you read the above info and the link (below) and you still have questions then post questions here or in the Ecotech forum.

Thank you and we look forward to working with you!

and this

The manufacturer is not "making us" do anything at all. If you want to buy the upgrade then we can help you. If not then that is fine also.

Many of us have the Vortec running at its lowest speed to keep from sand-storming.
Or will it only cycle from the current minimum and upward ?

Really? I run two full power at all times in my 90g sps with 5" DSB.
You know the lowest setting as of now is only 300gph right? You really want to go lower?
just curious.

I have 2 at the highest setting in my 180 and the center front of my tank will not allow sand to stay put.

That link for the refund information is broken. How much more than $50 are they refunding, because I bought three.

Yup, both back wall. One about 4" from surface and one about 5" from surface. My sand isn't all one depth and flat but it is settled and no BB spots.

no the lowest setting is 900 gph.

Point is we need specs. I can't believe people are buying this thing without any info.

OK...that's the funniest thing I have read all day. Thank you! :)

I mean really, reef keepers buying stuff without knowing anything about it...seems par for the course to me. "Oh my God, my scribble just ate my zoanthids!"

It's a controller for $50. Not a hard choice even if it only pulsed the pumps in my book. Heck I spent 7x that per pump + tax + shipping.
I understand wanting to know more, but not needing to know more.

...the lowest is 900gph? My bad, always heard 300gph to 3000gph. It sure doesn't seem like 30%+ of full flow at lowest setting to me.

I think the newer ones don't go as low. I had read the first vortecs went down to 300gph, but the last post I saw said the newer ones only went down to 900 gph. Mine is obviously at well over 500 at the lowest setting.

If this wave controller only cycles down to the low end of the current controller it will be useless for small tank owners. The vortec is very popular with small tank owners because of its small size. They need to let us know. Sure seems like it is missing a knob on the rendering. Most wave controllers have a speed high and a speed low dial.

Don't quote me but I believe I read through the discussions that the controller would power down to zero flow without zero power. That solves the problem of corrupting the software.

I really can't wait to get one, but I've held off on placing my pre-order for now. I'll just make more money in the next couple of weeks. Selling my Tunzes, that is. ;)

Didnt you do a demonstration of the wireless controller like 50 feet away? Is a controller still in the works or is this the wireless potion? I always though there was going to be an actual controller box you could hold and adjust it from anywhere in the room and be able to use it to control multiple tanks.

What does the Wireless Wave Driver do?
Well, in short it is a multicontroller. That’s right, the driver that you thought you required in order to use our future multicontroller actually IS our multicontroller, but it’s also our single controller.

Yea I read that but this has to be attached to the powerhead from what I can tell. In a way it is wireless, but only in conjunction with the other slave devices. Don't get me wrong, it's great and a great price but I thought it was going to be a remote type deal that I could sit on the couch and blast the fish 6' across the tank :)
