There is a Green Ghost in my tanks

Dont be so sure it couldn't get your chromis. Watched a show on mantids on national geographic. Be it clubber or spearer type, they can take down much larger prey...not just for food, but also if it strays close to their home. And clubbers can cause a cavotation bubble that creates a microsecond of heat literally as hot as the sun. Its crazy the amount of damage it can do.

That being said, puffers and triggers may be able to take it down, but then you have a puffer or trigger. Not sure if those are in your stocking plan

i fashioned up a fish trap that will catch anything you throw at it and all you need is a large water bottle. cut the bottle right where it stops tappering down and flip it over, inserting the top where the cap would go into the bottom part of the bottle. some bottles have ridges that let the trap snap together nicely which means you dont need glue. put some tasty food in the bottle and sink it to the spot near where the punk hangs out and just let it do its work. i caught my two damsels in less than 30 mins each. look this up on google for images on how to build it. really simple. really easy. almost free.

That's a funny video. :lolspin:

You might be able to insert a small, plastic funnel in the trap/bottle opening to keep the clown out but still let the mantis in.

I had a 1" mantis in my tank once and lost 3 fish.. I had to take my tank apart to catch it..finally ended up taking the roick it was in out and flushed it under freshwater to get it to let go ...They are said to have the punch equal to a .22 caliber bullet so it could easily have killed your chromis. They have split divers fingers wide open

well no luck overnight with the shrimp in the trap. The hermits got it out of the trap. Gonna modify the trap today by hot gluing one strand of fishing line across the bottles opening to stto the bigger hermits from getting in. And the clowns...

also going to set the trap when the lights go out. So the fish will be sleeping... They mess with the trap way to much. I guess the shrimp is like crack....

well I am not setting the trap today because i was bottom painting my boat all day. I am sure there is plenty of copper paint still in the pores of my skin...

Well it's been weeks and no sign of him... No noise, no molts.....and all of a sudden a green chromis is missing... Hmmmmmmm....

Stomatopod food now buddy. Find the rock it's in and dip it in club soda. Or dip rock for rock. Warning, pods will die too but it works. Got tired of waiting to catch mine witch ended up being a rare smithi mantis that some lady at the lfs bought off me for the price of a 10 pc at Popeyes. Wish I had that lil guy now though, he's sick! My loss

no can do. all my rock is epoxied together to prevent rock slides. Have only seen him once and only heard him once...

that would require removing the rock... as stated before, not gonna happen... I will try trapping again...

Good luck, i had one just like it that killed all my fish, and eventually my whole CUC.. The manager at my lfs got 10 pounds of rock that had 4 mantis in it when she had to dip it all

Well I found a missing green chromis... He is in my sump.... He is all beet up but livin large... He must have jumped into the overflow....
