Thick branches VS thin Branches on SPS

I am wondering, I have decent growth in my tank with my SPS but would prefer my SPS to grow in much thicker. It seem I am getting thin fragile branches as opposed to thick branches. Some of the reefers in my area have the same corals but grow in thicker. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Visit them and swap yours for theirs when they aren't looking. :lolspin:
I will try increasing flow and make sure you have optimal calcium, alk, trace elements levels.

+1 on more flow. Even in the same tank I have had frags from the same mother colony grow with two different thicknesses. High flow=thick branching, low flow = thin branching.

two mp40s and a tunze does seem like plenty of flow... maybe they're not hitting the corals enough?

Gary you were the first I had in mind to hit-up!:lolspin::lolspin::lolspin:

Maybe I do need to get some penductors, I considered them but never followed through.. Any suggestions where to get them from?

too late- I'm onto this :)

Chris- no mere powerhead can compete with the water movement coming out of my penductors.

Velocity, yes, but volume, not by any stretch. That being said, despite higher volume, I've noticed that velocity seems to affect shape more in terms of thickness (and sheer density). Even with over 10000 gph in my 40, I'm not getting the same density that I managed to get in my 75, since I subsequently modded the pumps to produce less velocity.

perhaps I should re-phrase:

no mere powerhead can compete with the velocity and volume being moved by my penductors.

Penductors are offered for sale in different sizes. I'll PM you specifics later on when I have time.
