Hey guys i'm thinking about getting a vortech mp40w for my tank. I have a 180 gallon tank. So far I have a rio 17hf or rio 26hf return pump, a wavebox, and 2 mjmod 1200. My tank is peninsula style, so the return and wavebox is on the left side of tank and the 2 mjmod is on the right side. I'm thinking about putting the vortech in the middle of the mjmod. Let meknow what u think. I'm am starting to get into SPS. Thanks!

yup u will love it great broad flow pattern and cool multi functions.. had one but sold it when i got rid of my 180..

i will be buying an MP-20 when i set up my new solana nano

hmmm yea id say play around it changes modes easy... once u get one u will see after a few tries what u think works best for your tank

Picked up a vortech last month and I'll never go back - things are just flat out awesome, polyp extension on my SPS has doubled :)

i have a 180 peninsula tank also and am thinking about getting a mp40w also... keep us updated if you get one and how you like it

I just got my MP40w 2 weeks ago. I am cycling a 60 gallon and currently set it up on my 24 gallon nano cube. It is sick! the way it throws the current is strong but gentle with your sand bed. Just get it it is worth the investment. Its a cool toy for any reefer.

If I don't turn mine off when I empty my tank for water changes it will actually throw water out of the side...

I have a 180 gallon tank with a tunze wave box, and 3 6045's i just added a pair of MP40Ws and yea, they work very well, however they are the loudest part of my tank. I like that they are super efficient and keep heat outside the tank, the broad flow is nice and on par with tunze 610x however the tunze is silent and computable aquasurf/neptune. I will probably keep them, however I am packing them up tomorrow to send them back to echotec to see if they can quiet them down a bit

this is something i had suggested to ecotech a while back...but if they would take the time to balance the magnets (wet and dry side) i think that would reduce some of the resonance (noise).

yea on pulse mode they do make slight noise going from slow to fast but nothing too loud.... I mean I would never have a tank in my room because how are you going to sleep with all the noise regardless of how quite it is...

I still think they are a great buy and cool gadget

Add a pair of Tunze 6105s and you wont need any other powerheads in the tank, just the wavebox. Theyre silent and efficient.
