Thinking about making the switch.....

As my current controller continues to act up and I find more unreliable readings for temp and ph values I am once again thinking about making the switch to a GHL controller. I have a few questions....

Is it Mac/Iphone friendly?

What kind of cable is used to connect power bars and modules? My tank sits about 30ft away from the fish room so I would need to run a long cable into the room to control the equipment there.

Ease of programming?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi

Good time to switch we have some great deals right now.

Mac - we have many users using windows on MAC or using cross over platforms, HOWEVER I know this is not everyones bread and butter so GHL are about to launch MY GHL which is a cloud based platform so everyone can have access. This is immenant, we displayed it at Macna this year

The cable used between the power bar and controller is Cat5e cable or 6, with ProfiLux 90% of the modules are already built into the computer and if you want to add more you just fit them into the slots, just like adding memory to a PC! that simple

The software is very straightforward for example if you wish to set up auto water change.

scroll to level sensor - set level 1 from the drop down menu
then scroll to socket functions and set the desired power socket that would run your pump to "water fill - 1"

No special code, no funky programming what ever you want to do is select-able in real terms from the drop down menus. Its like building blocks.

Please feel free to email me info@ghlna.com for more info on available packs.

Thats all very exciting news! So I could buy a long ethernet cable and run that from my tank area to the fish room where rest of my power bars and that will work?

I tried looking at who your North America distributors are and the link on the website doesnt produce anything. Do you have a list?

Yes correct up to 300 feet in fact!

Many items work off the GHL address bus system called PAB, from there you can daisy chain various features.

Best controller in the market. IMO.
You want options, GHL has more than you even care to use. I have been a user for close to 5 years and wouldn't look back.
At the beginning is hard to get used to their logic, but once you get it, possibilities are endless. And now with the Mitras, lightbar, doser and all other toys....it's money well spent.
I have Mac's only at home and even though I would love to be able to tell you Profilux is Mac friendly...they are NOT.
ON THAT NOTE, I still use my Macs to connect. I just do it via parallels and honestly it's not a big deal. Again at the beginning you have to go through hoops to connect esp if you are NOT a comp saavy person. I ended up hiring an IT person and he did the initial set up for me.
As far as as where to buy...all my equipment was purchased via Allen at ReefBytes. IMO if you want TOP NOTCH cust service go with BigAl.
Feel free to pm me if you have extra questions.

I have parallels on my mac from when I was using my Pac Sun fixture. It was a pita to connect to the light with it and now that I am back to MH I havent had to use it but do have it. The release of the cloud technology will be great.

You will be fine. It's not a big deal. I can help you out if you need. I am looking forward to see what the cloud has to offer me.

Make the switch, I love my profilux 3 with all its features. I have had it for 3 years now and have no complaints. It is by far the best thing I have purchased for my tank. I just recently ordered the module for it to control my Vortech pumps along with a few other items for fail safe situations. If you can think of something you want your Profilux to do, it can do it. And just when i thought it couldnt get any better, they come out with myGHL (coming this year). Im super excited about this little feature!!

I'm going to do it!!! I'm going to start with the ex kit and add on from there and slowly phase out the apex.

I agree, you won't regret it.
I have a background in programming and I still got frustrated with the Apex. The profilux is great.

I pulled the trigger and ordered the ultimate package!!! I'll still run my apex and gradually shift over to ghl as I feel more comfortable with it,

Congrats! You'll love it.
The best, most rock solid controller on the market.
I have used parallels on my mac for a couple years now. Not really any problems I can think of.
Since my support room is in the garage and tank is in the dining room, i installed the Touch Display right next to the tank so I can easily go into feed mode, or check stats without having to go into the garage.

thanks Dennis. Right now I am debating on where to set up the main controller. Im concerned about putting it in the fishroom since the humidity gets a little high in there. Still working on getting that under control.
