Thinking about trading my ritteri..

I've had this ritteri for a few months now, and he's done pretty well. The only thing is that he will NOT stop climbing to the top of the tank. Even when I've isolated him on a rock separate from everything else, he found his way to the top of the tank eventually.

The tank is a 30g JBJ rimless cube (I know it's a bit small - I downsized from a 72g) and it's lit by a full spectrum Evergrow D120. I've swapped out all the cool whites and put in 9 420nm, 3 neutral whites, and 4 660nm LEDs (to give me a nice purple/pinkish look). So my lighting is definitely adequate and the spectrum is pretty varied. My sebae is doing great at the bottom of the tank.

Flow wise I have a WP-25 running in else mode, then there's another ~500gph from the AIO return pumps. Tank is bare bottom so the flow is cranked up.

I think he's healthy and happy, but he won't stop doing what ritteris are known for! I really like my aquascape and I can't really change it in a way that will look nice and stop the anemone from climbing.

What should I trade it for? It looks like bubble tips are my only real option, but I'm not so crazy about them - I had one that decided to fight my circulation pumps...twice.

I feel your pain. Mine is a love and hate. Everytime it decides to take a walk I feel like pulling it out!

I'm not sure how much long I can put up with it! The other day he walked onto my cabbage leather and stayed there for a while (only the foot was touching the leather, not the tentacles), I think he liked that spot!

Most of my corals aren't glued down because I never know if my ritteri will decide he likes that spot today!

Ever since I started watching my water quality very closely it's been staying put. It too was at my wits end with it. But D-nak talked some sense into me. So I'm still hanging into it for now..... Watch me jinx myself and it takes a walk tomorrow lol

There really is no way around the need for space. Unless you can put your mag on a tall rock with no way for it to touch anything adjacent with its tentacles, there is a good probability that It will move. Requiring it to descend from the light to move around is usually enough to keep it rooted.

Yeah, that's why I'm considering trading it in at my LFS. In my 72g it was easier to arrange the rockwork to make a spot for him, but it's just not possible in this tank.

It's sad because he's quite happy and a very pretty specimen.

It is likely it is reacting to the sebae in your system. I've had ritteris in the past stay put, but as soon as I added another anemone, even another ritteri, it caused the original nem to start puffing up its foot and shuffling around.

Of course now he's moved down to the rock. I changed my WP-25 from wave mode #1 to else earlier today so maybe he wasn't happy with the flow he was getting near the rocks. I'll raise the intensity of the lights a tiny bit and see if this makes him happy.

Interesting that your Mag took a liking to a Cabbage coral....mine moved right along the rockery one night and has been ensconced in a large Cabbage coral ever since....it just seems to be his spot I guess - nonetheless, I'm just happy that he's happy there and the Cabbage seems fine with it too!!

Interesting. I have two mags, one gig and two haddoni's with no carbon at this point, hopefully that doesn't happen to me. Good thing I sold all the coral I care about.
