This aint no Clown Mantis!

Hey folks...Well I went ahead and ordered a clown/peacock mantis from Liveaquaria.com along with quite a few other things and they said they didn't have any in stock. I get my bix today and low and behold, there's a mantis on the inventory! So noe I'm exstatic and race to get the bags out of the cooler to find that instead of the 3-6" clown mantis, I got a run of the mill 2" that people get in on fiji rock. Normally I'd be like "cool, whatever" but I paid $40 for this thing! Has anyone else gotten something like this when they ordered a mantis online?

That's very strange. I'd be surprised that an operation as large as Liveaquaria would make a mistake like that. Are you sure it's not just a very young O. Scyllarus? I'd be pretty excited to pay for a 2" OS. It just means that you'll have it for more of it's lifespan.

If it doesn't look anything like the picture though I would bring it up with them. Do you have a picture of it?

not yet but I'm gonna get one as soon as I can. From what I can tell so far it's a smithi but I can't say for sure. As far as the 2" O. Scyllarus goes, How often have you seen one for sale that size? I've never even heard of anyone getting a peacock that size so I really don't think that's what it is...I'll get some pics as soon as possible so you guys can help with the id....Don't get me wrong tho- I'm not ganking on those guys. They run a great operation....It was just this one that was screwed up

OK....After much observation, I've determined that he looks just like this:

I cannot find a defined spot on his raptoral appendages at all....

yeah....I called them and they said that the coloration sometimes fades during the stress of shipping but to give them a call in a few days if it still doesn't look like a peacock and they do something about it.....I just hope a real peacock doesn't come in the meantime and they sell it to somebody else
