Okay, so I'm officially confused and embarassed to admit that I can't read this thing. Would someone please look at this and tell me how to figure out what the correct temp is?

I believe the correct temp is 84 degrees. I have another digital probe that says the temps are 80. Two mercury therms read the same.. so I want to know which one is correct. Unless I'm nuts, it's 84 right?

Thanks!

Thanks guys. I really thought I was going crazy and was starting to worry about myself!!!!!!!

Note: Coralife digital therms suck!! =)

I have the coralife digital thermometer and have not checked it against anything else yet. Perhaps I should.

I would def check it. Both of mine are not working very well, that is why I went out and bought the mercuy ones to check it out.

If you check it please let me know your results. I would be very interested to know how yours is reading.

interesting...i have a coralife digital therm as well....i'll have to test it again my old mercury one to see if it's accurate. i've never really given it much thought before..hmm.

The thermometer in your picture looks just like one I bought. What kind is it? The one I bought was cheap, and I don't think it works at all. It consistently says my tank temperature is about four degrees hotter than other devices I've used.

I too thought the scale markings were ridiculous and stopped using that device. I'd get something else to check your temp against before adjusting your tank 4° lower than you really want it.

FWIW, that looks like an alcohol thermometer, not mercury.

At any rate, assuming you have one with a big enough range, the easiest way to check accuracy is to put it in a pot of boiling water on the stove. Should read 100C or 212F.

Thanks. The problem is, I don't know what to trust. Every device I use gives a different reading.

It was $1.50 at Wal*Mart. the only store open. The package says Aqua Culture Aquarium Floating Therm.

MADE IN CHINA! Oh no! Eeeeek!

How do you know that the mercury thermomter is correct? They are notoriously inaccurate.

I don't know. I bought two for that very reason, and they both read the same temp. So they would both have to be wrong.. but if they were I would not be surprised.

Are mercuyr ones better?

This one doesn't go up t 212 but thanks.

Or lots of ice cubes with water in a cup, the thermo should read 0 degree C, that's the right side column of numbers
